White Clouds Loop: 4 miles, 560 ft elevation gain, trailhead is located across the street from Sun Valley Lodge. The loop starts out with a climb to an overlook of Ketchum, then rolls over gentle hills with stellar mountain views. Taylor Canyon: 3.8 miles, 1,500 ft elevation gain. The loop begins as a gentle climb through an open canyon before making big, lazy switchbacks up to a ridgeline with great views of Bald Mountain. Proctor Mountain: 3 miles, 1,100 ft elevation gain. The lupines blooming on Proctor Mountain in June is one of the most beautiful sights in the valley. Passes the Hemingway Memorial and the remnants of the first chairlift in the U.S. Pioneer Cabin: Advanced - 7.5 miles, 2,400 ft elevation gain. If there is one quintessential hike in Sun Valley, climbing to Pioneer Cabin from Corral Creek is it. This grunt of a hike ascends 2,400 feet in 23 switchbacks through alpine fields to Pioneer Cabin, which was built in 1938 by Sun Valley Resort for their alpine school.
Sun Valley is renowned for its exceptional fly fishing rivers and streams and offers an incredible diversity of opportunities for everyone from the casual novice to the ambitious expert. There are many outfitters in town that offer 1/2, 3/4, full, or multi-day guided outings; our favorite is Sun Valley Outfitters but you really cannot go wrong.
Whether you’re chasing birdies or simply savoring the scenery, teeing off here is an essential part of the Sun Valley experience. The Sun Valley Resort has three courses, Trail Creek (18 holes), Elkhorn (18 holes), and White Clouds (9 holes). Additionally the Bigwood Golf Course is Ketchum's primary public course with 9 holes.
From winding mountain singletrack to smooth valley paths and scenic road rides, Sun Valley offers biking for every kind of rider. Hourly and daily bike rentals are available at PK's Ski & Sports and Sturtevants both located in downtown Ketchum.
If you plan on coming early or staying late we highly recommend exploring north of the valley. Galena Lodge is located 23 miles north of Sun Valley and a great spot for lunch. Titus Lake is an easy 3 mile hike at the top of Galena Pass. Just before reaching the top of Galena Pass you’ll notice a crowded parking area on the right. This is the starting point for Titus Lake, an easy-to-reach alpine lake above 9,000 feet. Redfish Lake is a must see, you can rent boats, lounge on the lawn at the Lodge or hike in the surrounding areas. Finish the day in Stanley at some of our favorite restaurants the Stanley Supper Club or the Sawtooth Hotel.
If you are hungry, thirsty, or need a pick-me-up, these are the places we are aspiring regulars. For a cup of coffee, we recommend Maude's, Lizzy's, or Hank and Sylvie's. For breakfast/lunch, our go-to's are Bigwood Bread, the Kneadery, Raspberry's (weekdays only), FRX, and Wrapcity. If you are looking for a pre-dinner pour, we like TNT Taproom, the Duchin Room, or the Limelight patio. For happy hours that can bleed into dinner, we love Sun Valley Wine Company, Scout Wine & Cheese, and Grumpy's. For dinner, our favorite spots are Enoteca, Rickshaw, the Pioneer Saloon, Fiamma, Vintage, Sushi on Second, Cookbook, and Ketchum Grill (Rickshaw and Pioneer are first-come, first-serve, all others take reservations). If your night isn't over after all of the festivities, you can keep things going at the Cellar Pub, The Casino, or Whiskey's on Main.
