9:45PM. Fifteen minutes before my shift ended at a local restaurant. In walks three guys, and it was my turn to be sat. I was already cleaning and ready to leave. Needless to say, I was not thrilled. They gave me a run for my money that night, ordering drinks one after another, clearly having a great time. Caleb had moved to Lynchburg that day from Boone and they were celebrating. I later learned, after I greeted them that night Caleb turned to his friend and said, "Oh my God, I love her." Caleb became a regular and we ended up becoming friends over our mutual love for dogs. Turns out we lived in the same apartment building for about two months before Caleb asked me if I lived in building 1075. "I saw you walking Baloo!" he said. We tend to disagree about how that conversation went. About a month later I moved buildings in the same apartment complex. Caleb was working long days and needed someone to let his pup, Luna, out during the day. Luna was Caleb's whole world. She was the most well-behaved dog I had ever met. The connection the two of them had was incredible. Baloo, on the other hand, was my mutant boy who lacked training, so obviously I was impressed. I went over and took Luna on walks, and played with her around lunch time for about three weeks. Unfortunately, Luna passed unexpectedly. I showed up to Caleb's apartment that morning with cookies I had made the night before. For whatever reason, I felt the need to hover over Caleb for two weeks after that day. Although I hadn't lost a pet so unexpectedly like that, I knew how much Baloo meant to me and that was enough. Luna was our introduction and the reason we became such friends so soon after meeting. We both like to think Luna has a lot to do with us being where we are today. Now, almost 5 years later, we couldn't be happier with how it happened!
Caleb booked us a photo shoot as a gift, so we could get some pictures of us with Baloo, Bane. and Nyla. I've always wanted some photos of us with our pups so I was so excited. It was March 11th and we headed to a beautiful field near the Peaks where the dogs could run and play. We took some photos with the pups, then loaded them in the truck so Caleb and I could get some shots of just the two of us. We were ending the shoot when we decided to let the dogs join us again. Our photographer called Caleb and I over to "get just a couple more photos under the willow tree" since the sunset was so perfect. I was freezing cold and rushing Caleb to put down the towels we brought for the dogs when he got down on one knee. Needless to say, I was surprised in the most perfect way. He asked, and I said yes, surrounded by a beautiful evening with our three dogs by our side. Best. Day. Ever.
