Travel Note
Castello di Meleto is located in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany but is not easily accessible via public transit. We strongly recommend renting a car, as this is the easiest way to navigate Tuscany. Parking will be available for those staying at the venue. Address: Località Castello di Meleto, Gaiole In Chianti, Toscana 53013, Italy The nearest airports are in Florence (1 hr) and Rome (3 hrs). We recommend flying into Florence, or taking the train to Florence if you're already in Italy, and renting a car from there. The train from Rome Central to Florence is only 1.5 hours, and flights into Rome are typically cheaper from the States. For public transit, you can take a train from Florence to Montevarchi and then take a short taxi to Gaiole; but please note that you will have to take a taxi everywhere from there. Check the bottom of the page for some tips on driving in Italy!

Travel Note
Don't worry, driving in Italy is not as scary as most people say! Regardless, we've put together some tips for driving there to help make your trip as smooth as possible: 1. Drive the speed limit! Italy has tons of speed cameras that will give you a ticket automatically (even if you're only going 2 kmph over, as we learned). 2. In Italy, you really don't drive in the left lane on a freeway unless you're passing. The drivers are not aggressive, unless you're cruising in the passing lane. 3. BEWARE OF ZTLs- "Zona Traffico Limitato" zones are areas, usually in city centers, which are off-limits to traffic unless you have a permit. You will get automatically ticketed if you enter. This is the most common ticket that foreigners get in Italy. Familiarize yourself with the signage. 4. Be prepared for extremely narrow roads. Many of the roads in Tuscany don't have a dividing center-line, but don't worry, they're big enough for two cars! 5. Watch out for bikers. Chianti is a world-renowned destination for cyclists. 6. Google Maps is by far the best navigation app in Italy. 7. There are a lot of toll roads in Italy, so have some Euros in cash. Most booths accept cards, but not all! 8. An international drivers permit is recommended. You can get one at any AAA office.
