Important information about Kruger
The Kruger National Park is in a malaria area. Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist about the appropriate anti-malaria medication for yourselves and your little ones. The closest gate to Mopani Camp is Phalaborwa. This is 76km from the camp. Keep in mind, the distances in Kruger can be deceiving. The maximum speed on tar roads is 50km/h. This is impossible when viewing game...particularly when faced with a herd of ellies. As such, it is prudent to calculate travel times using an average speed of 25km/h. i.e. The estimated travel time between Phalaborwa and Mopani is 3 hours. Please also note, SANParks is very strict about gate closing times. In April the gate closing time is 18.00. As such, you need to ensure that you are at Phalaborwa gate by latest 15.00 otherwise you will not be allowed in.
Hotel
Accommodation at Mopani
SANParks rules do not allow travel out of the park after dark and as such, all our guests will need to stay at Mopani. We have organised a block booking to ensure that there is sufficient self-catering accommodation for everyone. There are two options: 1 bedroom bungalow (2 single beds, with 2 additional bunk beds/bench beds) or a 3 bedroom cottage (6 single beds). The approximate cost is R700 per adult per night. In addition, there is a daily conservation fee. More information about this in the FAQs. When you RSVP, please indicate your arrival and departure dates, as well as your preferred accommodation option so we can arrange accordingly. Please keep in mind that there is limited accommodation available. As such, we may need to allocate you to a different type of bungalow to the one you've indicated. There is a shop at Mopani which stocks a range of food, drinks and souvenirs. There is a restaurant at the camp - Tindlovu - with a deck overlooking the dam.
Flight
Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport
KMI is situated near the southern part of the park. This is an ideal arrival spot if you're visiting people in Nelspruit/White River before the wedding, or if you would like to make a holiday of it and travel up through the park over a number of days.

Phalaborwa Airport
Phalaborwa Airport is very small, with a limited number of flights. That said, if time is of the essence, this is a good option as it is then only 3 hours drive to Mopani. There are 2 Airlink Flights from Johannesburg daily (Monday-Friday, 1 flight per day over the weekend).

Travel Note
Driving from Johannesburg
Phalaborwa Gate is 498km from Johannesburg. There are various sets of road works happening along the route. Please keep this in mind when planning your trip! As mentioned in the 'Important information about Kruger', while the distance from Phalaborwa to Mopani is only 76km, driving at approximately 25km/hour this is 3 hour journey. For this reason, please ensure you are at Phalaborwa Gate by at least 15.00 on your day of arrival to allow sufficient time to travel to Mopani before the camp gates close at 6pm.
