Some (Jesse) argue that our story has fallen victim to "southern exaggeration", while others (Lexie) say the fortuitous timeline of events is exactly as described. While the "factual" version is perhaps lost to history, Lexie's version is as follows: In January 2013 while visiting prospective colleges, Lexie and her mom were given two plastic fold-ups seats to Pepperdine’s sold-out performance of Bus Stop. Within minutes of the play starting, a handsome character walked on stage. Lexie gasped, grabbed her mom’s leg, and said, “I’m going to marry that guy someday.” They then opened the play’s program only to find that the handsome-nameless figure was graduating that year. Not meant to be, they supposed. Six months later, Lexie moved to Pepperdine and took a tour of the theatre’s backstage area with her now-brideswoman, Olive. They walked into the scene shop only to see an open stage door with a beaming heavenly light shining down on a handsome man surrounded by a glorious cloud of sawdust. Lexie grabbed Olive’s leg and said, “I’m going to marry him someday.” A couple of months later, Lexie’s roommate didn’t want to go to a house party alone, and Lexie reluctantly agreed to go with her. They walked into an apartment, only to find this same handsome man by the stovetop – glistening with the soft angelic glow of the florescent kitchen lights as steam emanated from the skillet. Fearing this was her only moment to make a move, Lexie walked up to him and boldly stated, “My mom and I had a crush on you when we saw you in Bus Stop.” Eight years, a cat named Cheeto, and a ring later -- the rest is history.
