Many U.S. phone carriers offer international phone plans. We do recommend purchasing an international plan prior to travel in order to have access to maps, calling, and texting while abroad in case of emergency.
Greece currently uses the Euro (€) like most countries in Europe. In the high season, ATM’s on the island can run out of cash. It is recommended to bring a credit card and some euros. Keep in mind that many U.S. banks may charge international fees for using foreign ATMs to withdraw cash, in addition to the currency conversion fee. Additionally, some credit cards are not accepted abroad and others may require an international transaction fee. Before you travel: Ask your bank if international fees may apply to ATM withdrawals or international charges. Don’t forget to alert your banks that you will be traveling to Greece (internationally) and add “travel notes” to your bank account (this can often be done online).
Tipping is not required in Greece but 5-10% is appreciated.
Greece requires that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of your trip. Check your expiration dates and if needed, submit for a new one no later than February as it can take several months for it to be sent back to you.
On average, the high in Santorini in June is 80°F and the low is 69°F. Please dress for warm weather and stay hydrated!
