It was Emily's sophomore year and Tyler's freshman year at UMass Amherst. Emily happened to hang out with a bunch of tuba players that were in her class. Subsequently, Tyler, of course, also joined this group, as he is one of "them." A popular hangout spot for the tubists was a room affectionately known as The Tuba Room, where all of the biggest instrument lockers lived. Out of desperation and exhaustion, we found refuge in sitting on the floor having heart-to-hearts as people went in and out with their instruments. One of these people that happened to frequent the room was Tyler. Luckily for Emily, as she was in the group by proxy, she got to know Tyler as they passed each other. Over time, the friendship grew to dining hall meals, weekend hangs, and practice room debriefs. Eventually, Tyler worked up the courage to ask Emily to get food at Friendly's. The rest is history!
