Chelsea and Nicholas met by chance at a local dive bar in Richmond. That was Chelsea's favorite bar, so she and her friends visited frequently. Nick went out with an old "buddy", looking to catch a buzz. Chelsea and her friends starting talking to the group of Nick and his guys not thinking anything of it. The girls went up to sing Goodbye Earl, and after singing Chelsea knew she had to go find Nick. She approached him sitting at the bar, and he couldn't even tell she was trying to pick him up. They talked all night. They left the bar, and on the way Nick caught a few bumps and bruises from the "buddy", who was jealous. Chelsea couldn't leave Nick like that upon finding him in the street, so she got him back to his apartment and cleaned him up. The rest was history. They were inseparable ever since.

Chelsea and Nick were on a family vacation with Chelsea's family down to Outer Banks, celebrating Chelsea's graduation from nursing school. On the third night of the trip, the family was sitting down to dinner, and Chelsea noticed Nick was awfully quiet. At the end of dinner, Chelsea's dad asked everyone if they wanted to go for a walk on the beach. Chelsea knew something was up. As they were walking down the beach, Chelsea went to talk to her dad since Nick told her to (because she wouldn't leave Nick alone long enough for him to surprise her). She turned around and there was Nick on his knee asking her to marry him. She was so elated and overjoyed, she snatched the ring, and never really giving an answer (even though he knew it always was a yes).
