Question

Where Should I Fly Into?

Answer

Ideally, you will fly into San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport (SBP) to land directly in SLO. Our back-up recommendation is Santa Barbara Airport (SBA). If you fly into Santa Barbara you will definitely need to rent a car, but it's only an hour-and-a-half drive to SLO! Please note: although possible to fly into, San Francisco and Los Angeles are both 4 hours away from us here in San Luis Obispo.

Question

Where Should I Stay?

Answer

We have reserved a hotel block at our venue, The Madonna Inn. Please see the travel tab for more information on booking the Madonna Inn. A couple of other hotels in the immediate vicinity of our venue (less than 1 mile away) include the Embassy Suites by Hilton SLO and the Best Western Plus Royal Oak Hotel. There are also many Airbnbs and Vrbos in the greater SLO area, so it could be worth checking those out too. If going this route, please note how far they are from the Madonna Inn to determine if a rental car is necessary.

Question

Should I Rent a Car?

Answer

If you are just coming for the weekend and fly into SLO, you can absolutely get by with Uber and Lyft in the immediate SLO area, assuming you stay close to the venue and/or downtown SLO. If you are planning to stay outside of SLO and/or venture out a bit - to Avila, Morro Bay, Los Osos, Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, Cayucos, Cambria, Hearst Castle, Atascadero, Paso Robles, etc - we highly recommend you rent a car! If you fly into any airport besides San Luis Obispo Regional Airport, you will need to rent a car.

Question

What Does 1960s & 1970s Semi-Formal Colors, Patterns, or Styles Encouraged Mean?

Answer

We are so glad you asked! We don't want our encouraged dress code to cause undue stress or prohibit you from attending our wedding, so what we offer below is merely guidance. Ultimately semi-formal anything is just perfect. However, if you want to dress in the retro spirit of our wedding, here are some ideas. Semi-formal for women: consider wearing below-the-knee dresses, maxi dresses, slip dresses, a dressy skirt and top, an elegant pantsuit, or a dress shirt and slacks (styled with nice wedges or formal flats, as we strongly discourage heels since the ceremony and reception will be on grass). Semi-formal for men: opt for a dress shirt and slacks, with the option to wear a suit jacket or sport coat and tie. 1960's or 1970's colors include burnt oranges, mustard yellows, olive greens, blush pinks, baby blues, mauves, and browns. A simple Google search for "1970's colors" will likely give you the best idea. 1960's or 1970's patterns might include floral, paisley, or geometric patterns. Anything that looks "groovy" fits the bill. 1960's or 1970's styles for women include combining the semi-formal outfit suggestions above with the colors and patterns detailed above. You might consider bell sleeves or puff sleeves. For men, given you'll likely wear slacks and a dress shirt, see the advice above on colors and patterns. If you want to go all out and wear a vintage outfit from the 60's or 70's that's hanging in your closet or want to thrift for one, by all means. If you're all in, we're all in!
