FAQs

If you have any other questions than what we've listed here, please email us at leomiwedding@gmail.com!
Question

Give me the basic deets.

Answer

Our wedding will take place at the outdoor tents of The Mansion at Glen Cove in Long Island this summer on August 29th. Cocktail hour and tischen/bedeken will begin at 4pm. Chuppah will begin promptly at 5:30. Please dress in comfortable summer wedding attire, and note for shoes that most of our wedding will be on grass. If a rain plan is required, we will let you know via the email you provide in the RSVP form!

Question

How do I RSVP?

Answer

Scroll up to our menu and click the tab that says "RSVP." Then click where it says "Click here to RSVP." It will take you to a Google form. Note that the form is a couple pages long, and you must click "Submit" at the end to complete it. If you're experiencing any troubles, email us at leomiwedding@gmail.com. Please RSVP by August 8th!

Question

Are there any COVID restrictions in place?

Answer

No — per New York State law and recommendations by the CDC, we will not be requiring masks or social distancing. Chuppah and reception seating will take place as normal. Regardless of your vaccination status, we encourage you to follow whatever masking and distancing practice you are comfortable with, though Naomi and Leo do encourage unvaccinated guests to wear masks. We will have disposable masks available for those who want. We ask that guests do not assume vaccination statuses of other guests based on their mask use, or judge others for their mask use. Please note that if you would like to take part in the tischen, they will be indoors. Health experts emphasize the extremely high effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines against the virus, and combined with a mostly outdoor event, we are not concerned about spreading the virus. That being said, if we need to contact trace, we will reach out after the wedding. We will email if any of this information changes!

Question

What will the space look like?

Answer

Cocktail hour will be on an outdoor patio area surrounding a pool (basically, don’t get too drunk and stumble around). The tischen will be indoors, separately. The bedeken will be outdoors. Chuppah will take place under a tent on artificial turf. Dinner will take place under another tent on the Mansion's lawn, with a hard surface for dancing.

Question

Wait, did you say tischen? There’s two?

Answer

Yes! Naomi and Leo will each have a tisch. We welcome guests of any gender to join both, and everyone is welcome to bop around to each in between noshing at the shmorg. Leo will have Orthodox mincha at his, and Naomi will have egalitarian mincha at hers.

Question

Are there any other weird religious things about your wedding we should know about?

Answer

Our wedding will be unique in many ways, combining both traditional Orthodox and modern egalitarian elements, reflecting our family backgrounds. We are imbuing these important values and elements into all of the parts of our wedding — from our ketubah and tischen to our chuppah ceremony and sheva brachot. We will also have separate-gender dancing for the first part of our simcha before moving into mixed dancing. We can’t wait for you to experience our weird beautiful wedding!

Question

I’m unfamiliar with traditional Jewish wedding ceremonies and don’t understand anything you’re talking about.

Answer

Fair! Jewish ceremonies can look different between different kinds of couples and communities. We will have a detailed wedding pamphlet that we will share beforehand to explain everything that’s going on. We’ll do our best to make all aspects of the ceremony clear and unambiguous, but know that the base language for the proceedings will be a mix of Hebrew and Aramaic. There's also so much symbolism it'll make your eyes roll back into your head. But it's so cute don't worry!

Question

Leo, can you ID this bird for me?

Answer

Leo will gladly identify any bird you point out to him throughout the evening. Please BYOB (bring your own binoculars). We ask that you not ask him questions about birds while he’s literally under the chuppah. It will be hard enough for him as it is to not glance at the sky while consecrating himself to his kallah. Naomi wrote this FAQ.

Question

Anything else fun I should know?

Answer

Yeah, check this out: Our wedding invitation was lettered by Naomi (the English) and Leo (the Hebrew), with layout by Leo’s uncle. Our monogram was designed and illustrated by Leo; it is the first and middle letters of our Hebrew names formed into a bunch of grapes, corresponding to the fact that the translations of both of our last names are related to grapes. We chose our verse above our monogram — Song of Songs 7:12-13 — based on the fact that we will literally be going out to a field to get married (iy”h) and it mentions vineyards (hello again grapes!). One more thing: our ketubah is being designed, lettered, and illustrated by Leo, with mentorship from another uncle. We're very DIY over here.
