How We Met: Chelsea: I'll be honest, the night we met is blurry. Perhaps I had one too many Burnett's shots. My sorority was hosting a party and Leland was not my date. In fact, I had never heard of any one called Leland before. But as fate would have it, we struck up a conversation a few times over the night and the rest is history. Leland: As usual, my memory is much better than Chelsea's - in fact, I remember the night we met like it was yesterday. It started like any other evening, going to a pregame for a sorority social where the only person I knew was Colin (his date had convinced him to dress like teletubbie cross-dresser). Obviously not wanting to be closely associated with that, I struck up a conversation with Chelsea - who was dressed as a flapper and a perfect match to my soccer outfit, the Coco Chanel to my Christiano Ronaldo. The rest, as they say, is history - after reminding her who I was the next day! Proposal: Chelsea: I'm a planner and I hate surprises. Naturally, I had to tell Leland when I wanted to be proposed to. It was January 2017 and we had our second trip to Bali booked for November that year. Besides giving Leland plenty of time to mentally prepare, I knew how much we both absolutely loved Bali. On November 22, 2017, we had one of the most incredible days seeing volcanoes, waterfalls, and rice paddies. If it had ended there, I would have said it was the best day of the trip. But upon getting back to the hotel, with the help family, Leland had created a beautiful display of flowers that overlooked the Ubud valley. While I didn't plan this part, I would say it was absolutely incredible. Leland: Fortunately for me, the proposal location was not a problem, as the time Chelsea wanted to get engaged lined up perfectly with my quarterly Bali trip. Add in an amazing family who took care of the logistics, and even a volcano that erupted a handful of miles from our resort couldn't stop the wheels I had put in motion roughly 6 years earlier.
