Leira was visiting San Francisco in Feb of 2018 and got invited to a Superbowl party that happened to be at Rolo's house. At some point during the party, Leira approached Rolo and introduced herself. They exchanged social media handles at the end of the night and didn't think anything of it....until Rolo messaged Leira a few weeks later and invited her back to the city to celebrate his birthday, and she did! Leira and Rolo continued to do long distance between Portland and SF for a few more months until Leira made the move to the Bay Area. They quickly started this new chapter together in San Francisco, and now, 2 dogs and 3 apartments later, they are embarking on another huge milestone! Married life...here we come!

Leira and Rolo made a trip to Tulum, Mexico on March 3rd to celebrate Rolo's 30th birthday. They had three full days to enjoy Tulum. Rolo had planned to propose on the second day of the trip. On their first full day, he had planned to stop at an isolated beach and propose then, but didn't end up finding that perfect spot, so the proposal got pushed another day. The following day on March 5th, Rolo's birthday, they went to have dinner at a rooftop restaurant. From that rooftop lookout, Rolo spotted the view of the incredible white sandy beach. He decided then to do the proposal the following morning somewhere along that beachfront. They reserved a cabana at Kanan's beach club, the same space where they had their rooftop dinner the night before. The plan was to wake up early, go take a pictures with the sunrise, and to go take pictures of Leira with the popular Tulum sites, come back to the cabana, eat breakfast, relax and enjoy the day on the beach. On Saturday, March 6th, Rolo and Leira woke up early to go on their photo taking adventure. When they got to the beach, there was no one there and they ended up having the beach for themselves. Rolo set up the tripod and his camera, as he was planning on filming the proposal. Nevertheless the camera decided to give Rolo some technical difficulties and he wasn't able to use the camera to record, instead he ended up setting the camera to take the perfect picture instead. In that moment, he saw a person from the beach club and quickly asked him to record the moment with Rolo's phone. Rolo made the last adjustments to the camera, set up the timer and ran to Leira. When he reached her, he got down on one knee, told her he loved her and asked her to marry him, she of course, said "Yes!". The camera took the perfect picture and the beach club employee recording also ended up taking a perfect video. They spent their last day celebrating this new chapter and adventure!
