Max and Kaya met in the summer of 2013, when they were co-leading wilderness trips for teenagers in Wyoming. Kaya was about to start her junior year at Pomona College, and Max had just graduated from Bowdoin College and was starting work as a teacher in Maine. In the airport, Max said he'd visit Kaya if she visited him... so she did. They went sledding and skiing, ate donuts, and set a gelato-in-cold-weather record. Over the next seven years, they mostly lived far from one another—from Maine (Max) and Nepal (Kaya), to Boston (Kaya) and Japan (Max)—before Max returned to the US mid-pandemic, one month before the original wedding date. Though the official wedding was postponed, Max and Kaya got married in a park with immediate family, local friends, pizza, and socially distanced bocce ball last September, and they’ve been delighting in finally being together for good ever since. ∞ We’re very much looking forward to seeing you all in September to celebrate our marriage!
