We met for the first time in the spring of 2017 at resident assistant training when we were assigned to work on the south campus staff at Northwestern University. Al’s first impression was, “who wears loafers?” (she would later be informed they are driving moccasins) but then quickly realized that Sean was a hilarious, kind-hearted, empathetic person who made a mean latte on his contraband espresso machine. Sean’s first impression was “who is this try-hard who takes everything too seriously?” (still true honestly), but quickly realized that it was just Allison’s passion and care for everything that is important to her he was noticing. Later that fall, while walking back from a work dinner at the University President’s house, it became clear to both of us that there was something there, but neither of us were brave enough to make a move. But luckily, we have really great friends. Sean asked the team if anyone wanted to go in on this Groupon for a restaurant in Saks Fifth Avenue—it was a super great deal. Al was immediately taken by a man who loved a coupon as much as she did. This would be our first official date a few weeks later thanks to our friends/bridesmaids Victoria and Nihmot who made us dance together at a party and covered Sean’s front desk shift so he could take Allison out, respectively. Over the past 8 years, Allison and Sean have done so much life together: graduated from college, converted Sean back to White Sox fan, moved in together, bought a home, fostered plenty of dogs and cats, found their groove as hosts with the most, turned Al into a cat person, started graduate school and new jobs. We’re so thrilled that so many of you have witnessed our growth as people and as a couple and there is no one we’d rather commence and celebrate this new chapter with!
