On May 4, 2021, Leah and Ryan’s paths first crossed at Boomer Jack’s Grill & Bar. Leah wasn’t even supposed to be working that day—she’d been called in because the restaurant was short-staffed. Ryan, dining with friends, happened to sit in her section. Though they were both drawn to each other, no names or numbers were exchanged. Ryan, set to move across the country to Charlotte, North Carolina, in less than a month for a professional caddying opportunity on the Korn Ferry Tour, figured there was no point in starting something just to say goodbye. Fate had other plans. Two days later, Leah was hanging out with a coworker who invited her to join a casual gathering at a friend’s house. “You’ll love Ryan—he’s great!” her coworker assured her. Leah agreed, but as she walked up the driveway, she realized she already knew Ryan—it was the same handsome man she had served two days earlier. Meanwhile, Ryan, standing in rubber slides, thought, If I’d known SHE was coming over, I’d have dressed better! That night, they stayed up talking until sunrise. Ryan wanted to ask for Leah’s number but hesitated, knowing his move was imminent. They said goodbye, thinking it might be the last time they’d see each other. But life had other ideas. Later that day, Leah suffered a work injury and ended up in the ER. The next morning, as she recovered on crutches, she got an Instagram notification that would change everything: “Ryan Jimison sent you a direct message: Hey bruiser! Heard what happened to you at work…if you need anything, let me know. I make a great ice cream delivery man ;)” From that moment, they were inseparable. Ryan helped Leah recover, and Leah helped Ryan pack for Charlotte. Though they admitted their feelings for each other, they decided not to start a relationship just before Ryan’s move. They made the most of their time together until Ryan left on June 4, 2021. Despite the distance, they texted and FaceTimed daily. By late June, Ryan casually mentioned during a call, “I have a bye week over the Fourth of July. I’ll be in Charlotte.” Leah, trying not to blush, asked, “So…are you inviting me to visit?” With a grin, Ryan replied, “Yeah. Yeah, I guess I am.” On July 2, 2021, Leah flew from Dallas, Texas to Charlotte, North Carolina. They spent the Fourth of July together at Lake Wylie, South Carolina, where Ryan officially asked Leah to be his girlfriend. They promised to make their long-distance relationship work, no matter the challenges. Leah visited Ryan in Salt Lake City, Utah, in early August to watch him caddy in the Utah Championship. By the end of the month, Ryan returned to Texas during another bye week, and after much thought, he decided to leave caddying to focus on his family—and his newfound love, Leah. In September 2021, Leah and Ryan moved in together. In May 2022, they welcomed a miniature dachshund, Henry, into their lives. On December 22, 2024, Ryan proposed to Leah at Lightscape in the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, surrounded by dazzling Christmas lights and bluebonnets. He chose that date because it marked the anniversary of Leah’s grandfather proposing to her grandmother 23 years earlier. Spoiler: Leah said yes! Leah and Ryan have shared laughter, love, challenges, and countless memories. They’re excited to continue their journey, hand in hand, for the rest of their lives. Mark your calendars for December 21, 2025, when Leah and Ryan will say “I do” and begin their next chapter: forever.
