Getting Here

We suggest guests fly into London with adequate time to arrive at The Manor House in the early afternoon of July 3. Castle Combe is a 2hr drive from London. Landing in London by July 2 would allow you a little bit of time to see a few sights, adjust to the time change, and take a leisurely drive to the The Cotswolds on Monday morning, July 3. Guests will be welcome at The Manor House beginning at noon on July 3, with guest rooms being made available by 3pm.

Flight

Airports

We recommend flying into either London's Heathrow (LHR) or Gatwick (LGW) airports. The Manor House Hotel is about a 2 hour drive from either of these airports.

Rental Car

Rental Cars

We recommend renting a car. There are limited options for public transportation between Castle Combe and London. Having a car will allow you to tour the area. Driving on the opposite side of road takes a bit of getting used to, but you'd be surprised how natural it becomes.

Train

Train between London and The Manor House

Guests can take a train from London's Paddington Station. Take this train to Chippenham (Village Center). This gets you within a 20 min drive of the Manor House Hotel. At this point, call ahead for a local taxi (No Ubers/Lyft in area). The train takes only 1hr from Paddington to Chippenham, about half the time it takes by car. Click the View button below to go to the GWR website. You can pre book your train tickets, or purchase them the day of. There is a luggage rack in each train car, and economy class tickets are perfectly adequate. We've tested the train, and we approve. :) IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT UBER/LYFT/TAXI: 1.) There are no Ubers/Lyft in the area 2.) Taxis should be pre arranged as this is a small town in the countryside, and many taxis have contracts with the local schools to drive the kids around. School will be in session. While there might be taxis waiting at Chippenham station, please reserve a taxi in advance so that you are not stuck. Shuttle Bus Between Heathrow and The Manor House

Getting the train from the airport to The Manor House is not ideal as you have to change trains in London, which is the opposite direction. However, here is a great option for a shuttle bus that can take you from the airport to Chippenham, where you can then take a taxi to the Manor House. When choosing the destination, choose "Chippenham", which drops you off in downtown Chippenham, at 1 Bath Rd. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT UBER/LYFT/TAXIS: 1.) There are no Ubers/Lyft in the area 2.) Taxis should be pre arranged as this is a small town in the countryside, and the taxis all have contracts with the local schools to drive the kids around. School will be in session. Dialing in the UK

To dial numbers in the UK from an American phone, you likely will have to dial +1, then skip the first zero in the UK phone number. You do have to input the + sign, which is done by holding the zero key on your phone until it appears. We've found this to be true using an iPhone on Verizon.

Getting Around London

For those of you exploring London, you may find this resource helpful for getting around without a car. Also, get the Apple Pay or Google Pay working on your phone so that you can very easily make contactless payments for the Tube (English for subway) or taxis. No need to stand in line at a ticket machine, just swipe through at the turn-styles.

Getting Around the World on Public Transport

Rome2Rio is a great resource to quickly find modes of public transport for anywhere you might want to go (anywhere in the world). See link in "View" below. Also, while it may seem obvious, it's worth mentioning that Google Maps is a great resource to find walking, driving, and public transport options. It's particularly useful in a place like London, where it can tell you where the closest Tube station is, etc.
