Laurie’s Version: It all started with a sunset. I had seen this young blonde kid a handful of times since I’d moved to New Smyrna in June of 2019, but he was never on my radar. That was the case, until I ran into him at one of my favorite sunset spots one night, on March 29th 2020. We had our first one on one conversation, the colors in the sky faded, the stars came out, two hours passed in a blink, & the rest is clearly history! But if you were still itching for more details: We went for a three hour paddle on the intercoastal four days later & spontaneously followed it up with a sunset surf session. By the fourth time we hung-out I knew in my head he was the one, by six weeks of hanging out almost everyday I realized I’d completely fallen in love with a mature man of God, & now I’m officially a cougar. Caleb’s Version: After just being laid off due to COVID-19, I went to my normal sunset spot to enjoy the beautiful place I call home. As I got to Due East dock, I saw a familiar face. There was a girl and a dog who I had seen many times in passing, from church to small group to the surf. We started to small talk, but shortly into the conversation we started to get pretty deep. Sunset turned into star light and I knew we had crossed paths for a reason. At first I thought I had a new best friend, and I was right. After several adventures and many deep, transparent, humbling conversations I knew that this was the girl I had been praying for my whole life. My best friend. My confidant. My surfer girl. I am blessed with the best, and look forward to growing alongside her and leading her towards Christ every day.
