FAQs

Question

Do I Need a Passport To Travel To Ireland?

Answer

Yes! If you're coming from the U.S., you'll need a valid passport. Be sure it's valid for at least six months past your travel dates. A visa is not required for U.S. citizens visiting Ireland for fewer than 90 days.

Question

What Is The Weather Like In Ireland In May

Answer

May is a great time of year in Ireland. Expect fresh greenery, longer days, and mild temperatures, typically around 60–63°F during the day and upper 40s°F at night. You might experience light rain, so pack layers and a raincoat or umbrella just in case.

Question

How Do I Get To Tankardstown House The Day Of The Wedding?

Answer

On the morning of the wedding (Sunday, May 10th), we’ll provide a shuttle from Dublin to Tankardstown. The ride takes about an hour, and we ask that everyone come dressed for the day and bring their luggage with them so they can be ready to check in and go to the ceremony. Prefer to drive? There is free parking on-site if you'd rather rent a car and make your own way there.

Question

Are Kids Invited?

Answer

Yes! We’re happy to include your little ones in the celebration. If you're planning to bring children, please contact sarahjane@tankardstown.ie directly so we can ensure your accommodations at Tankardstown are set up properly.

Question

How Do I Get Back To Dublin After The Wedding?

Answer

We know guests will have different post-wedding plans, whether you're flying home Monday, staying an extra night at Tankardstown, or exploring more of Ireland. There won’t be a group shuttle returning to Dublin, so please arrange transportation in advance. Uber/rideshare apps are not reliable in the countryside, so a pre-booked car service or taxi is best. The drive to Dublin Airport is about 60 minutes. You can book a van for up to 8 people for ~$250 total (~$31 per person). We’ll share recommended providers closer to the date. If you're continuing your travels, we suggest renting a car from Dublin for flexibility.

Question

Do I Need An International Phone Plan?

Answer

Check with your provider to see if they offer international plans. Many U.S. carriers do! Wi-Fi is widely available, and apps like WhatsApp are commonly used across Ireland to communicate with drivers, hotels, and restaurants. We recommend downloading it before your trip.

Question

What Currency Does Ireland Use?

Answer

Ireland uses the euro (€). Most businesses accept credit and debit cards, and tap-to-pay is widely used, even in small towns, pubs, and taxis. Tipping in Ireland is appreciated but more casual than in the U.S.: -Restaurants: 10–15% if service isn’t already included. -Pubs: Tipping isn’t expected at the bar, but you can round up if table service is provided. -Taxis: Round up to the nearest euro or add a few extra. Cash is helpful for small tips, but many people leave gratuities via card as well.
