Well into a second drink at a cigar club on the Upper East Side, Greg Gurevich (one of the groomsmen and a dear friend of both Lauren and Tanmay) asked Tanmay if he wanted to meet a “very nice girl.” Tanmay hadn’t met Greg’s soon-to-be wife Daina yet, but this nice girl was her close friend and roommate from college, who had recently moved to New York (spoiler: it’s Lauren). Tanmay had become friends with Greg through work, bonding over a shared love of fixed income market structure and quantitative trading. Tanmay trusted Greg’s gut (or maybe it was the whisky) and said, “Sure.” Meanwhile, Daina and Lauren were having a casual dinner a couple dozen blocks away. Greg texted Daina to bring Lauren to meet this guy who was “nice and single.” Lauren asked for more details (or a picture?!), but Daina didn’t have either. With nothing more than his name and Greg’s recommendation, she took the gamble. The two groups met up at the Monkey Bar, where Greg ordered half the menu for the table, despite Daina and Lauren having just had dinner. After Tanmay mentioned the restaurant Nix in Union Square, Lauren offered her phone number so they could go there together. Not long after that they did, and now you’re coming to their wedding!
