How do a girl from Missouri and a boy from New Jersey find each other? For us, it started with the shared experience of being unsure of what to do with our lives after college which led us both to apply for Teach for America. Through TFA's algorithm and perhaps divine intervention, we were both selected to become teachers in Oklahoma City. Our respective housing searches led us to opposite sides of the same duplex. Through this incredible coincidence, we were able to start spending time together and become friends. As the holiday season was approaching, Lauren generously invited Peter and other residents of the duplex home for Thanksgiving. Unbeknownst to Lauren, Peter had already developed a crush for Lauren and Thanksgiving was the perfect time to spend more time with her and get in the good graces of her family. Perhaps Peter would even be able to impress Lauren with a fast time in the Turkey Trot 5k. Whether or not Lauren was impressed with Peter's 5k is up for debate. But after a handful of outings to Empire Slice House, a Thunder vs. 76ers game, and several movies, we started dating! Brunch at Cafe Kacao was our official first date! Around this time, Lauren agreed to go to Firefly Music Festival in Delaware. This was quite a commitment considering that this trip involved camping in tents. After hearing that Kesha would be performing, Lauren was willing to take this leap. Since then, we have continued to to seek out adventures together. We frequently utilize our breaks from teaching to explore new parts of the country and the world. Lauren has learned to appreciate the brilliance of Nick Foles' Super Bowl performance and can explain why Peter thinks the NBA Draft Lottery is important. Peter now has opinions on the dating lives of Gilmore Girls characters and has a ranked list of Taylor Swift songs. After quarantine, we both agree that we could not image life without the other. We are excited to go on the biggest adventure yet and get married!
