We were both early to a meeting (which is ironic, as we're both always late.. to everything). Jon was attending as a real estate agent and Lauren as guest speaker. — He Said: We started chatting and found out we have a lot in common. I thought she was a new agent but learned she is an attorney attending as a guest speaker (looking for business.) While she was giving a rather straight-forward, sugar-free pitch to the crowd I was thinking, who does this girl think she is - I like her! After leaving the event I knew this called for a Facebook friend request, rather than a LinkedIn connection. It took a few "networking" get-togethers but she finally got the point that I wasn't only looking for business. For our first non-business outing, I asked her to go for a hike in upstate New York. She was hesitant to give up a beach day for somewhere without cell service. Instead, she agreed to meet in Manhattan on the premise of "never turning down a chance to do something active." I took her for a beautiful bike ride on the waterfront around the city, which turned out to be the first of many rides. — She Said: In a world of online dating I met Jon in the most organic way -a real estate meeting for work. Conversation before the meeting began was just easy, simple, and fun. I thought it was a great opportunity for a new business prospect :) We exchanged business cards at the end of that meeting. I was intrigued but didn't think too much of it. I originally declined his first date request (to hike on a mountain without cell service on a beach day?!) but my mom convinced me to give it a chance. After that first ride around the city I knew Jon was someone special. He went on to show me trail riding around Nyack and I again thought Wow. I was officially hooked. I found my new adventure partner.
She Said: We booked a trip to California for a much needed vacation. Jon was in charge of planning the first part "the drive down the coast". We arrived in Carmel and I was in awe. It was absolutely beautiful. The next day we took off early for a drive further south to Big Sur. After hiking through a few different vistas and waterfalls we started on an uphill path. I was climbing on all fours at one point up a cliff side with the Pacific crashing below. We took a break and sat for a long while staring out into the never-ending ocean. Jon offered me trail mix (just like on our first bike ride). [I still had no idea that anything was about to happen]... It was beautiful. We continued to climb for another five minutes to the next plateau. He said "I want to spend the rest of my life with you." / I said "shh, you're ruining the moment! This is so pretty!" / He said, "No, really, I want to spend the rest of my life with you!" And then it happened! He got down on one knee and asked for real! ...then I got nervous and knelt down too (woops). Yes! PS the ring was in his new backpack that he bought specifically for this trip because it had a hidden pocket. And he almost got caught by security at JFK... they were thrown off by his tuna salad on a toasted bagel. — He said: She said yes!
