There was a lot of anticipation leading up to this vacation. I (the bride) and my family and friends all thought that the proposal would happen while we were in Florida, but as far as I knew the ring was not in Fernando’s possession. We had been in Florida for a few days at this point, and Fernando had been giving me a hard time about how he’s not going to propose on this trip because everyone thinks he’s going to propose and it wouldn’t be a surprise. So we’re at dinner, at a very nice restaurant, but I’m not thinking anything of that because we are foodies and just like going to nice restaurants. The waitress even asked us what the occasion was when we sat down and we said “vacation!” We’ve eaten the main course and are in the middle of dessert: cake and 2 dessert coffees when the bill comes. Fernando looks at it and says gesturing to one of our desserts, “do you think they would comp this if we had said we were engaged?” To which I gesture to all the desserts and say “I think they would have comped all of this if we had said we were engaged.” As I finish that sentence I look over to find him holding my grandmother’s engagement ring.

Había tanto anticipación antes de estas vacaciones. Yo (la novia) y mi familia y amigos pensaron que la propuesta pasaría mientras estábamos en Florida, pero por lo que yo sabía el anillo no estaba en posesión de Fernando. Habíamos estado en Florida por unos días en este momento, y Fernando me había estado dando un momento difícil sobre cómo no va a proponer en este viaje porque todo el mundo piensa que va a proponer y no sería una sorpresa. Así que estamos en la cena, en un restaurante muy agradable, pero no estoy pensando nada de eso porque somos foodies y gustamos ir a buenos restaurantes. La camarera incluso nos preguntó cuál era la ocasión cuando nos sentamos y dijimos “vacaciones!” Hemos comido el plato principal y estamos en medio del postre: Pastel y 2 cafés de postre cuando llega la factura. Fernando lo mira y dice haciendo un gesto a uno de nuestros postres, “¿Crees que lo compensarían si hubiéramos dicho que estábamos comprometidos?” A lo que me doy cuenta de todos los postres y digo: “Creo que habrían compelido todo esto si hubiéramos dicho que estábamos comprometidos”. Al terminar esa frase, miro para encontrarlo sosteniendo el anillo de compromiso de mi abuela.
