Lovingly known as "the painted village in the sky", Tannersville is a quaint and colorful village. The business district on Main Street isn't very big—blink and you might miss it—but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character! Swing by Shandaken Bake for a coffee and a sweet treat - we like their key lime pie bars and "Chubby Squirrels" (cross between a scone and coffee cake) but everything is excellent. For shopping, visit Tannersville Works and Catskills Candle Studio for home decor/gifts, and Camp Catskill for outdoor apparel.
Public garden with trails and boardwalks connecting 200 acres of plant collections, meadows, wetlands, and forests.
The highest cascading waterfall in New York State and a must-visit! Access the observation platform at the top of the falls via an easy 0.5 mile trail from the parking area on Laurel House Road. This is a popular trail - arrive early! Tip: Continue down the path along the falls for a view of Bastion Falls, or hike up to Inspiration Point for panoramic views.
Where we got engaged! A moderately challenging 4.6 mile trail with stunning panoramic views at the end. Tip: Easily combined with Plattekill Falls - just a short out-and-back to the base of the falls. The trail begins at the junction in front of the informational kiosk just above the red cabin. Search "Codfish Point Trailhead" on Google Maps!
Another nice, moderate hike with lots of overlooks and an unbelievable view of North-South Lake from Sunset Rock. Parking at North-South Lake Campground.
Follow this easy trail along the West Kill Creek to Diamond Notch Falls Tip: Swing by West Kill Brewing for a beer, lunch, live music, and mountain views on the way out!
Woodstock is a vibrant town that maintains a rich history of music, arts, and culture. Grab something to eat at Bread Alone and peruse the offerings at Mower's Flea Market. Head down Tinker Street to check out some of the independent shops and galleries before ending with a drink at Station Bar & Curio.
Located ~45 minutes from Tannersville, Hudson is a small city full of cute shops, cafes, and galleries. First, stop in at Mel the Bakery and/or Talbott & Arding for sandwiches and baked goods to fuel your outing. Meander in and out of the storefronts along Warren Street, or take a stroll along the waterfront promenade for views of the Hudson River and Catskills beyond. Wander over to BackBar and enjoy a hard-earned drink outside. If you have more time on your hands, drive the extra 15 minutes to Art Omi Sculpture Park in Ghent!
Kingston is another charming city with more to see and do. Start your day with a bite at Camp Kingston or Rosie General before exploring the eclectic shops in the Stockade District. Pop into Rough Draft Bar & Books for an afternoon pick-me-up, or sip on a craft beer at West Kill Supply. Kingston is a good place to stop if you're driving up from the city!
Travel alongside the Esopus Creek through the beautiful woods of the Catskill Mountains via rail explorer - a pedal powered vehicle that rides on railroad tracks.
