When you arrive at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM), please be aware that the area surrounding the airport is not the safest to explore on foot or while waiting for transport. We strongly advise arranging an Uber or pre-booked taxi for pickup to your hotel like Taxidatum - safe & reliable (click link to view). 🚘Travel Time from Lima Airport to Miraflores/Barranco: Approximately 40-50 mins (depending on traffic)
Travel Note
Lima is vibrant, exciting… and a little wild on the roads! We do not recommend renting a car or using public buses — driving in Lima can be chaotic, and even locals will tell you that the streets operate on their own set of unwritten rules. Instead, we suggest using Uber for all your transportation needs. It's safe, reliable, and inexpensive. You'll find it especially convenient in areas like Miraflores, Barranco, and San Isidro, where most attractions, restaurants, and accommodations are located.
Travel Note
Like many South American cities, situational awareness is important in Lima. Please avoid wearing flashy jewelry or high-end accessories that may attract attention. Be mindful when using your phone in public spaces, particularly in crowded or unfamiliar areas. That said, if you plan to explore Cusco or visit Machu Picchu, you’ll find that the Andean regions are much calmer and safer, with a more relaxed pace and welcoming atmosphere. Always trust your instincts, be smart with your belongings, and you’ll have a truly unforgettable time in Peru!
Travel Note
From Canada & Trinidad and Tobago, you will need your Canadian passport that must be valid for at least 6 months beyond departure from Peru, with at least one blank page for entry/exit stamps. You do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days
Travel Note
Peru’s climate varies by region, but Lima is generally mild. Expect cooler, overcast weather from in May, with average temperatures around 22°C. If you're visiting the Andes (e.g., Cusco), it can be warm in the day and get chilly—especially at night—so layers are key and good walking shoes.
Travel Note
Peru uses the Peruvian Sol (PEN). Cash is king in smaller shops, markets, and taxis, while credit cards are accepted almost everywhere else. Tips: - Bring USD to exchange since it's widely accepted and easily exchanged at good rates - Avoid exchanging large amounts at the airport due to higher rates. Use Registered Street Changers (Cambistas) and exchange only small amounts at a time. While generally safe, they can be targets for theft.
Travel Note
