Cabrillo is one of Lucas' favorite nature spots in San Diego. The park has panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, San Diego Bay, and the downtown area. There are some paths (1-2 miles) but you can also drive up to the viewpoints. There is also an area with tidepools so aim to go at low tide. There is a fee unless you have some type of parks pass.
Balboa Park is San Diego's "central park" type place with numerous museums, gardens, performances, the San Diego Zoo (Laura's mom worked here most of her life), and other sights. Lucas and Laura's second date was at Balboa Park. During that date, they went to the Fleet Science Center, the Museum of Photographic Arts, and had drinks at Panama 66. It took a long time but they finally kissed ;)
Formerly a naval training center, Liberty Station is now home to a large complex of bars, restaurants, and boutiques, as well as Liberty Public Market. It also has a miniature golf course and a regular (par 3) golf course. We recommend Stone Brewery and Buona Forchetta for some fresh pasta. There is also a Trader Joes if that's your thing.
OB is a nearby beach neighborhood for those coming from out of town that want to see some Californian beach culture. There will be real-life surfers. The pier is unlikely to be open as it was damaged by waves but there is a human beach and a dog beach.
