Our wedding venue is such a special place and we are so excited to share it with you! Vermilionville Historic Village is a collection of original Cajun cottages and buildings that have been preserved and moved together to create this amazing "living history museum." While we will have access to the chapel and the performance center during the wedding, the rest of the village will be closed. However, we strongly encourage you to make a trip to see the full site while you're in town! Vermilionville is open six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m (admissions stop at 3 p.m.). There is often live music in the performance center on Saturdays and the daytime sights are beautiful and serene!
One of Laura's favorite New Iberia restaurants is Cafe Jefferson, hidden within the Rip Van Winkle Gardens on Jefferson Island (about 20 minutes away from Lafayette). Get the chicken and sausage gumbo, see the cats and peacocks that live on the grounds, and gaze over the lake that was created when a salt mine collapsed. Walk through the Rip Van Winkle Gardens (you'll need to purchase admission in the gift shop), a beautifully curated grounds of gorgeous native plants and wildlife as well as the historic buildings throughout. If Rip Van Winkle existed, he definitely was here.
