Getting there by car

For the majority of our guests who are traveling from Washington, DC, the best option is to drive! It is a scenic 3-3.5 hour drive through rural Maryland and West Virginia. If you'd like to explore (or offer!) carpooling options from DC, please indicate this when you submit your RSVP and we will connect you to other guests. For those coming from North Carolina, it takes about 6 hours to reach Deep Creek from either the Raleigh-Durham area or Winston Salem. For those coming from further distances, please see airport information below.

Flight

Morgantown Municipal Airport

The closest airport is a small regional airport in Morgantown, West Virginia, which is only served by United Airlines. United provides limited service from Washington Dulles (IAD) and Chicago O'Hare (ORD). From Morgantown, you would need to rent a car and drive about 50 minutes to McHenry, Maryland.

Flight

Pittsburgh International Airport

Depending on where you are traveling from, it may be a better option to fly into Pittsburgh and rent a car from there. The PIT airport is a 2-hour drive from McHenry.

Blue Moon Rising Cabins

There are a limited number of very cute cabins on site that are designed to accommodate 2-4 people per cabin; most of them are conducive to 2 couples per cabin or a mixed group of couples and singles, with limited privacy. They are reserved from September 4th (Thursday) to the 7th (Sunday). Due to these and other considerations, we are prioritizing these cabins for guests without children who are comfortable pairing up with other guests and are staying for at least two nights. Please see the FAQs page for more details on the cabins. We are coordinating cabin lodging via the RSVP form and one-on-one conversations. The cabins are dog-friendly, but keep in mind that your cabinmates will also need to be comfortable with your pup.

Vacation home rentals

McHenry is a year-round tourist destination given its proximity to Deep Creek Lake and the Wisp Ski Resort, so there are quite a few vacation home rental options in the area. Vrbo and Airbnb are the easiest options; there are also several local vacation rental companies, though most cater to large multi-family homes. Of the local companies, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations has the most variety of options (press the "view" button). We'd recommend choosing a rental within a 10-15 minute drive of Blue Moon Rising - this will ensure we can get you home safely after the wedding libations.

Wisp Resort

The Wisp Resort is another nearby option that is just a 6-minute drive from Blue Moon Rising. There is a 10% discount code (8344) for up to 10 rooms under the Kramer-Walters wedding guest block. The deadline for booking a room to secure the discount is July 25th; you should call Wisp reservations between 8am-6pm EST to reserve the room using the code at 855-656-4632. Payment would be due at the time of reservation. Check-in starts at 5 pm, check-out is at 1 1 am.
