Everyone loves a love-at-first-sight story. Well, this is not that story. On some unknown date at some unknown time during (probably) September 2012, Kevin found himself with a group of friends hanging out in Maddie’s dorm room at Virginia Tech. After an unsuccessful attempt to make conversation over a Communication Skills textbook, Kevin had to try his hand at making a connection some other time. Unfortunately, a laundry room conversation about weak college dryers didn’t do the trick either. Thankfully, before Kevin and Maddie exited their freshman year, they were able to find common ground when they discovered that they share the same birthday (month, date, AND year). That summer, Maddie and some friends were invited to spend a weekend at Kevin’s family’s lake house. At the lake, Maddie couldn’t help but notice his impressive talents on a jet ski. And to everyone’s relief, Kevin and Maddie finally started dating later that year. Seven years later, Kevin took Maddie back to that lake house where she first witnessed his mastery of watercraft. He took her out to the shore, got down on one knee, and asked her to ignore the drone flying overhead and spend the rest of their lives together. She ignored the drone, and also said yes. So it wasn’t a love-at-first-sight story for these two (though, maybe it was for Kevin’s mom). If left up to fate, there’s very little chance these two would’ve ended up together. But just like our favorite romcom heroes--Jim and Pam, Ross and Rachel, Luke and Lorelei--it was only a matter of time. ❤️
