About US

A Long Distance Romance, 25 years in the making

Landon and Janessa grew up living about 2 miles from each other. Their parents had become good friends through church, and they even carpooled to school together in high school. Janessa hardly remembers those days, but Kari helpfully reminded her that she thought Landon was "annoying". Landon thought Janessa was probably a "princess" and was boring. Needless to say, sparks were not flying. Fast forward to October 2018. Landon sent Janessa a random Snapchat message, asking why she wasn't in a youtube video that a mutual friend had posted. Janessa thought nothing of it, but responded to his message to be nice and the conversation died quickly. Somehow, over the next few weeks and months, the two began talking more often and it got to the point where something would happen and they would look forward to when they could tell the other person about it. Both Landon and Janessa felt like they had gotten each other all wrong, and were seeing how far off they were in their assumptions. Texting turned into facetime calls which lasted for hours. It wasn't long before they met up again in person, officially started their relationship and fell deeply in love. After growing up just a few miles away from each other, it took roughly 7 years and for Landon to move to Texas for the two to realize that they were meant to be together. Only God could make something like that happen!

The Proposal

One Humid Happy Day

Saturday, June 8, 2019 Janessa was very intentional about not bringing up a proposal since she didn't want to pressure Landon into doing it too early. She noticed that even when she wouldn't bring it up, Landon would talk about it then say " Please be patient, these things take time." She began to think he was trying to throw her off his trail and make her think he was going to take longer to propose that he actually was. Saturday June 8th came around, and Landon was able to finally officially ask Janessa's dad, Jim, for her hand in marriage. Janessa knew this was happening and thought that the pressure of asking for permission was weighing on Landon. In the car, after Landon had talked to Jim, Janessa made sure to tell Landon that just because he now has permission to propose, she didn't want him to feel like he was pressured to do it anytime soon. Landon, ever the actor, looked very seriously out the window and said "How will I know when I'm ready?" Janessa was now certain that Landon wasn't going to propose anytime soon. In the evening of that day, the Yancys and Kupfers were going to go out to a nice dinner. Landon made sure Janessa was dressed nicely and had her nails done (shout out to Kaitlin!) beforehand. After she had gotten ready for this nice dinner, he suddenly suggested that they go to a park and look at Donkeys.... in 95 degree HUMID texas heat. It took some convincing, but Landon finally lured Janessa to the proposal site. It was the most beautiful picnic scene. They prayed together, ate some crackers and cheese, and looked at an album he had created with pictures from their adventures so far. After reading the bible and the scrapbook, Landon got down on his knee and proposed. Janessa cried a LOT of happy tears and said "yes" many times over. And now our story is just beginning!
