This place has everything: walking trails, a Japanese Earth Garden, two flightless bald eagles, a 20-foot waterfall, a small herd of exotic deer, some bears, a perfectly-preserved Gilded Age mansion, and baby goats. (The Nature Center and Maymont Farm are both great fun for little ones!)
Built in what was once the Richmond Union Station, this museum serves both as a home for amazing exhibits on all kinds of fascinating subjects and a sobering reminder of the former splendor of our country's rail system. The Children's Museum is also right next door!
An island in the James River, accessible by pedestrian bridge. Go for a walk, get some sun, dip your feet in the river, maybe find some cool ruins. Some people also do rafting, tubing, stand-up paddleboarding et cetera on the river. We're not cool like that but we can tell you where to find that stuff if you want.
Virginia's Grand Motion Picture Palace! This beautiful single-screen theatre is ninety-seven years old this year and houses a built-in "Mighty Wurlitzer" theatre organ as well as several ghosts (allegedly). Catch a second run or a classic on the big screen, how it was meant to be seen.
One of Richmond's finest and most-legit independent record stores. A great place to find out about local shows or pick up some quality vinyl.
An incredible hidden Richmond gem specializing in punk, metal, and alternative records and apparel. Also claims Richmond's largest selection of horror films, on everything from Laserdisc to Blu-ray, as well as a truly staggering number of pinball and arcade machines.
Come enjoy our local Double-A baseball team! They're not very good but they do have a dazzling array of mascots.
Technically the site of our first date. An absolutely perfect neighborhood bar.
Best Italian in the city; former workplace of the groom; the site of many incredible dates and dinners since. The bride insists that you try the gnocchi; the groom would eat their tiramisu for every meal if he could.
Classic French cuisine served in style; former workplace of the bride; feels a liiiittle bit like walking onto a Wes Anderson set. Go early in the morning for the best fresh-baked bread and pastries.
If you self-describe as a "foodie," first of all ew, but second and more importantly you should really eat here. Get a reservation if you want a table, but the real fun is at the bar--the staff and cocktails are incredible, possibly even better than the food.
Another neighborhood classic, serving old-school Italian-American and brunch all day. Friendly and unfussy. Highlights are the Greek salad, Spaghetti a la Rudd, and you can't go wrong with a Bloody Mary.
Another perennial favorite (also serves breakfast all day... noticing a pattern here?). Great coffee, great Cuban food. Everyone should order their café con leche with sweetened condensed milk at least once.
Only read this if you're cool! If you're not cool keep scrolling. I'm serious! Okay this is like a hidden park where you can sit on the grass and drink a little beverage from the market across the street. What kind of beverage? That's between you and your god, my dear wedding guest. Enjoy.
We love you The Richmond Kickers
