Rocky Mountain National Park is located just minutes from Estes Park and is a must-see while you’re in town. Timed entry permits are required to enter Rocky Mountain National Park. A valid park entrance pass or entrance fee is still required in addition to the timed entry permit. Guests may also choose to leave their car in town and use the RMNP Hiker Shuttle, which allows access to the park with a timed-entry permit. Timed entry permits become available beginning May 1 at 8:00 a.m. (MT) and can be reserved through: Recreation.gov website. If you’re planning to explore the park, some favorite spots include: Bear Lake & Emerald Lake – Iconic alpine views and accessible hiking Lily Lake – Easy, scenic loop close to Estes Park Chasm Lake – Strenuous hike with dramatic Longs Peak views Trail Ridge Road – One of the most scenic drives in the U.S. (weather permitting)
