How We Met

"Hey, I like your music!"

Chris and I met while working at Walgreens, glamorous right? We began as coworkers, then became quick friends. The thing that really sparked our budding relationship was Chris's taste in music. I had been sitting in the office doing training when he walked into the freezer, Staind blaring from his phone. Like the awkward person I am, I had shouted, "Hey, I like your music!" He came around the corner to say thanks and that's where it all began. And the best thing is about us dating while working at Walgreens? We're now following the mold set by those couples before us who happened to work at this particular store. Anyone who had started dating while working together at the corner of happy and healthy on Eaton and Main eventually got married. We're just the next ones in line, and I'm so glad that we followed suit. He swears he was kidding, but he also said he knew he loved me after watching me play Guitar Hero and beat 'Cliffs of Dover' on an Xbox controller sans guitar. Five starred that sucker for the first time while he was watching. Chris was my lucky charm, and he still is today.

How He Proposed

"Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay / My, oh, my, what a wonderful day / Plenty of sunshine headin' my way / Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay!"

I had surprised Chris with a trip to Disney World for his 30th birthday. It was supposed to be a treat just for him, but it turned into something so much more. On our first day at Magic Kingdom, I had made Fast Pass reservations for my favorite ride, Splash Mountain. It was scheduled at around 3 PM, and it was an agonizing wait. Plus, there was no guarantee that it would stay open as it's plagued with regular shut downs. Boy, am I so glad that it pulled through. We arrived an hour early to the Fast Pass lane because of my addled brain thinking that our time slot was at 2 PM instead of 3 PM. Chris played a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors with one of the Cast Members and lost, but she had a kind heart and let us through any way. Getting through the line was a breeze and soon we were being loaded into the back of the boat. With a lurch, we were off and around the first corner into the caves of Splash Mountain. I had been looking off to the right, not paying any attention to Chris, and watching the animatronics on my side, taking it all in. This ride was one of my favorites. I'd loved watching Brer Bear and Brer Fox chase after the poor ol' Brer Rabbit and all the animals singing along. This gave Chris the proper opportunity to pull the ring box from his pocket. When he started talking, I had no idea what he was planning. He told me he loved me and I'd responded in tow, not bothering to turn my head. It was when he said that I meant a lot to him that I noticed something was up. My heart stopped when I saw the ring box and it was all I could see. I cried as it was slipped onto my finger. I couldn't say yes enough. "I love you. You mean a lot to me. I know this is your favorite ride, so let's make this a bit more special. Will you marry me?"

For all the days along the way
