Things To Do

Some of Our Favorite Places to Explore!

Smithsonian National Zoological Park

3001 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20008

We first bonded over our love of animals, and we went to the zoo the day Michael proposed. Fall is our favorite time there! It's free, just reserve passes in advance.

Old Town Alexandria

Alexandria, VA

Fall is the perfect time to explore Old Town, Alexandria! There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and even some museums to check out but it's also fun just walking along the river or the streets with charming townhouses. We also recommend checking out the galleries in the Torpedo Factory. King Street is the main road but be sure to explore down some of the side streets too!

National Mall

Washington, DC

If you haven't been to DC before, the National Mall is a must. All of the Smithsonian Museums are free and cover a wide range of topics. The monuments are also free and great to explore. Some museums require reserved passes, so make sure to check ahead of time.

The People’s House: A White House Experience

1700 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20006

Not part of the Smithsonian, but also a free museum, The People's House increases access to the experience and stories of The White House through interactive exhibits.

United States National Arboretum

3501 New York Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

We always love exploring the Arboretum. We always recommend seeing the columns but be sure to check which areas are in season. We also enjoy stopping by Union Market on the way home for some delicious food.

Potomac Water Taxi - Alexandria

0 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

See the city by the water! Water taxis have various tours and can take you in between Old Town Alexandria and Georgetown, The Wharf, or National Harbor.

Alexandria History Tours

221 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

There are so many walking and food tours available in Alexandria and DC. Pick your favorite to explore a new neighborhood! If you want to embrace spooky season, ghost tours are an option.

George Washington's Mount Vernon

3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA 22121

We love Mount Vernon! Unfortunately, the house will be closed for updates during the wedding, but there is still lots to explore on the estate, especially if they're having a special event or festival.
