Chance Encounter

09/28/2017

So she was sitting there, across the table from some old man, and like a knight who sees the damsel in the clutches of a dragon, I knew she needed rescued from this old man. So I made my move. Overhearing their conversation, I inserted myself, charmed her socks off, stole her digits and made out like a bandit. (Any rumors about botching the original landing, sulking out to my car, and then returning again for her number are an exaggeration and should be dismissed.) -Donavan Yes, let’s see... the real version, babe. I was having a business meeting with a wise mentor when a handsome man in his dishevled work uniform walked up to my table and inserted himself into the conversation only to discover his opening line had nothing to do with the conversation at hand. After gracefully continuing the conversation, he left and my mentor asked me why he hadn’t gotten my number. I blushed and tried to deny the chemistry. Then I looked up and through the glass door I see this young man striding purposefully towards me. He walked up and my business partner said, “So are you going to ask for her number now?” And we all laughed as he handed me his phone, my name already typed in. (Any rumors that I texted him before he reached his car are strictly hearsay.) -Maribeth

The Moment We Knew

It Was Forever

Clearly the moment she laid eyes on me. -Donavan Well, it took a little longer than that although I had a great first impression! The moment you knew you wanted to marry me was three months into our relationship and you almost propsed on the beach. You didn’t tell me until you actually proposed a year and a half later. I knew around six months into the relationship that you were the one that I wanted! -Maribeth

The Proposal

So we’re sitting there, about to go to the gym so I could get my pump on, when I felt a feeling of love descend upon me like the epic riff of a guitar leading into a Led Zeppelin song. Sparks flew. Fireworks went off in the background. Little diapered cherubim flew around our heads chucking love darts at our temples. It was in that moment I knew, “Maribeth, will you marry me?” -Donavan I love your version, babe, but rewind... we were sitting on the couch, staring into each others eyes and celebrating our year and a half anniversary when you looked at me and with all the seriousness in the world you asked me to marry you. My heart instantly knew this was our moment and I blinked back a few tears and said yes! We held each other and celebrated for awhile before, yes, we packed up and went to the gym. After your workout we were walking to our favorite restaurant to celebrate when we passed the jewlery store as they were packing up during their final days of business. We went in and found a ring that, later after I had scowered the internet, was exactly what I wanted and the exact size of my finger. We picked it up at the jeweler’s home two weeks later and you presented it to me on one knee at Sugar Lake. It was perfect! -Maribeth
