Crossing the Border

There are 3 different border crossings from the San Diego Area that you can use to cross into Mexico as well as back into USA. San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, and Tecate. For the most part traveling into Mexico through any of the three is relatively easy and quick. Upon returning back to America, we usually cross depending on the crossing that has the least wait time. Use the website here or download the app BWT for wait times.

FMM - Forma Migratoria Múltiple

The Forma Migratoria Múltiple or FMM is a Mexican immigration form that foreign nationals must complete when entering Mexico for tourism, business, or transit for up to 180 days. Although we have never been asked for one OR presented one upon re-entry to the USA, it is better to be safe than sorry. Filling out the form takes less the 5min and is available for free and for instant download. Follow the link below to complete yours and your guests prior to departure. Let us know if you have any questions or need help filling this out.

Driving Directions from Otay Mesa Border Crossing

When driving from Otay Mesa border crossing you can expect to spend about 15-30min getting over the border and then about a 2-3hr drive down to the wedding venue. Take the 2D to the Ruta de Vino (3) which you will take until it ends. Once the 3 ends you take a right onto the 1D, where you will drive to the Ensenada toll (Plaza de cobro no. 36), but DO NOT go through the toll, you will do a U-turn and then on the right is cobblestone road you will turn on (see galley photos for picture of turn out).

Driving Directions from San Ysidro Border Crossing

When driving from San Ysidro border crossing you can expect to spend about 15-30min getting over the border and then about a 2-3hr drive down to the wedding venue. Remember the earlier you cross the less busy it will be. Once on the 1D you will have to go through 3-4 tolls which are around $3 each, they take American dollars and pesos. Once you cross the last toll before the venue, the turn off is so quick it is easy to miss. There is a Circle K right before you go under a bridge and a tile sign that reads “Balcones Cibola Del Mar.” There will be a cobble stone road on the right that you take until you reach the venue (see galley photos for picture of turn out).

Driving Directions from Tecate Border Crossing

When driving from Tecate border crossing you can expect to spend about 15-30min getting over the border and then about a 2-3hr drive down to the wedding venue. Remember the earlier you cross the less busy it will be. There is only 1 toll which is around $3, they take American dollars and pesos. Once at the end of the ruta de vino, you will take a right onto the 1D and you will drive to the Ensenada toll (Plaza de cobro no. 36), but DO NOT go through the toll. You will do a U-turn and then on the right is cobblestone road you turn on (see galley photos for picture of turn out).
