This love story started in 2016 at Enterprise in ABQ, NM where Lacy was Cameron's manager. Their chemistry was undeniable- as friends of course. As fate would have it, Lacy took a weekend trip to San Diego shortly thereafter to Celebrate her 25th birthday. At the same time, Cam was heading to LA to take his little brother, DJ, to a Clippers game. After the game, Cam made a quick detour down to San Diego to celebrate his friend Lacy’s birthday at Beach House (note the location…it’s an important one!). As with most employers, it is frowned upon for coworkers to date but this pair was convinced they had everyone fooled, believing they were just “good friends.” Despite the charade, it was apparent to co-workers something more was going on. Some things just can’t be ignored! After a few months enjoying all of their free time together, Cameron returned to LA to pursue his dream of law school & Lacy moved to San Diego to pursue her dream of living by the beach. For the next two years, Cameron left work on Friday afternoons to sit in California traffic for hours so he could spend the weekends with Lacy. He would wake up before the sun came up on Monday mornings to travel back to LA & do it all again. For two years, Lacy and Cam spent their weekends at the beach, trying new restaurants and hanging out at local bars while enjoying each other and the California sunshine. This brings us to 2019- Cameron passed the LSAT and began applying to law schools. Naturally he wanted to be closer to Lacy, so he applied (and was accepted) to a law school in San Diego. At the same time, Lacy’s mom, Shawndy, convinced Cameron to apply to UNM just as a backup. As it turned out, Mother knows best because that San Diego school lost its accreditation so UNM it was. On very short notice, Cam moved back to ABQ to pursue his dream of becoming an attorney. Lacy stayed in San Diego to continue working at a job that she loved. Once again, they were long distance. Lacy would travel to ABQ to visit Cam & in the spring of 2020, Cam traveled to San Diego to spend spring break with Lacy. The two had plans to go to New Orleans, and then on to Ohio for a friend’s wedding. As we all know too well, life had other plans as this was the week the world stopped as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. Ultimately, Cam’s spring break was extended and the school decided classes would be held remotely. He decided to stay in San Diego with Lacy while she continued to work remotely. In May, as the pandemic raged on, the two decided to take a trip to ABQ. While in ABQ Lacy bought her first home. The plan was - as soon as it was deemed safe - Lacy would return to San Diego while Cam would live in the house while finishing law school. But you know what they say about “best laid plans…” A week after purchasing the house, Lacy received the devastating news that she had breast cancer. Cameron was already a student and now became a caregiver as well. He was by her side during countless rounds of chemotherapy and surgeries. He consoled her, fed her, and even shaved her head as the hair loss from chemotherapy began. The following year was incredibly difficult. It was challenging, messy, and scary, but love and perseverance carried them through. Cut to May 2022, Lacy remained cancer free, Cameron graduated law school and took the bar exam. In July, they took a celebratory trip to Cabo San Lucas to finally have some worry-free time together. The second night of the trip, Cam had a surprise planned for Lacy. He had arranged for a private cabana on the beach filled with roses and a beautiful dinner. It was there that he got down on one knee and proposed to the love of his life (with a photographer in the wings). In shock, but loving every minute of it, Lacy said YES! The joyful couple will walk down the aisle and wed each other right above Beach House (told you it was important!), the very same venue where their love story first ignited.
