Lacee and Dakota met in 2020 while Dakota was working in Thompson, MB for his first posting of his career. Meanwhile, Lacee was home for a short summer break before entering her final year of Respiratory Therapy school. The two were introduced by mutual friends who thought they would make a good pair. After just a few days of talking, a 5 km walk around town during COVID, and a drive to Mid Lake, they became inseparable. They spent a year in a long-distance relationship while Lacee finished school and moved back home to start her career. During that time, Dakota bought his first house, which they later got to enjoy together. Lacee’s little dog, Lily, happily welcomed her new fur sister, Remi. In 2024, they moved to Winnipeg and bought their first home together. Dakota proposed to Lacee while they were spending a weekend in Kenora. During one of their favorite hikes with the dogs—a pastime they both love—he got down on one knee overlooking a set of rapids. With Remi sitting beside him and a beautiful ring he had picked out himself, Dakota asked Lacee to marry him.
