We highly recommend going to Tuolumne Meadows to see another area of the park, this is the high country at 8,600' elevation. This is where Robbie would start hiking to work when he was at the High Sierra Camp called Vogelsang. It is a 7 mile hike from Tuolumne at 10,000' elevation! This is where he worked when we met. This is a nice area to do a driving tour, you don't have to hike to see the views. But it's more enjoyable of you do! Easy walk to Parson's Lodge and Soda Springs Moderate walk to May Lake, Gaylor Lakes Difficult all day hike to Clouds Rest or Cathedral Lakes **There are no amenities here, be sure to bring food and water. It takes 1 1/2 hours to drive there from most places. **Nice stops at Olmsted Point and Tenaya Lake along the Hwy, if anything, bring a towel and drive to Tenaya Lake to relax on the beach. Since it's high elevation it's much cooler temps here, so bring a warm jacket if it's cooler where you're staying.
Going to see the giant sequoia trees is a MUST if you haven't seen them. They are the largest living things on Earth! Tuolumne Grove or Merced Grove are the best options. It's a 2 mile hike roundtrip to see the big trees. These are both near Foresta. Mariposa Grove is another option, but it is located in the southern end of the park.
We highly recommend going to this area for some of the best views in Yosemite. You can drive to Glacier Point, or you can enjoy hikes to Sentinel Dome and Taft Point if you want to stretch your legs, these are both 2 miles round trip. *If you only go to one, I recommend Taft Point. You might get lucky and see some highliners enjoying their sport, this is a pastime of Robbie's too. It's a wild one!
