How We Met

The Ultimate ROW-mance

Lorrie: We met at a gym called Row Studios (now Bulletproof Fitness) where I was a client and Kyle was coach. Kyle had taken over coaching the weekend strength classes that I would take and, being the classy lady that I am, I would refer to him as "Hot Coach #1" to family and friends. (There was a hot coach #2, but... moot point) Kyle: Lorrie always stood out to me in class for a few reasons. One, she was always on time (a little early in fact) to class. Two, she was very coachable and had great form with knowledge of Olympic lifts, which made her an ideal member. She was very approachable and I always felt comfortable with just chatting a little here and there. I noticed she always laughed at my corny jokes which was always nice (other people laughed too, but not as much as she did). I spent quite a long time trying to figure out if I should try to make a more personal connection with her. I didn't want to scare her off, so I was very slow at gathering things about her through different conversations and poking around seeing how she responded to certain questions. She didn't seem off-put, so I finally asked what she liked to do for fun and eventually set up our first date at St. Arnolds Brewery. Lorrie: I honestly for the life of me couldn't figure out why this man was talking to me while I was mid workout and it took weeks for me to understand that he potentially was attempting to hit on me. I actually think I even called Devon a few times to get her opinion. It wasn't until he started asking me about "how to find cool things to do in town" that I realized he may actually like me. Well unfortunately I am not cool and do not do cool things, so I went home and true to engineer form did my research on fun ideas. I ended up sending Kyle a few ideas on Facebook and we soon picked an art show at a local brewery for our first date.

Our First Date

Love is Brewing

Kyle: Our first date started off by me almost not being allowed in my Uber because they thought I was throwing up, but I was actually getting rid of my mouth wash since they showed up a little earlier than I expected. It's funny to think about, because on the way there, my Uber driver asked me where I was going and when I told her it was a first date, she said it was going to be fantastic and hopes it goes somewhere. Well here we are nearly three years later! We went to St. Arnolds (a Houston brewery) where we ended up talking for about 6 hours. There was an older couple sitting next to us and when Lorrie left to go to the restroom, they asked me how long we had been together. When I told them it was our first date, they said they were impressed and could have sworn we had been together for years by how well it was going. I knew we would eventually have another date because it was just so easy to talk to her and it never once felt awkward or forced, plus I was able to make her laugh a lot. Lorrie: After Kyle asking me "how I find cool things to do in town" I ended up randomly stumbling upon an art show that was going to happen at one of the breweries in town (St. Arnold) for our first date. I was so nervous for so many reasons... What if the date didn't go well? Was I never showing up to the gym again? haha Does he even like beer or soft pretzels and carbs in general? Was he one of those macro counting fitness guys? I love food too much! How would that ever work out! Well, to my surprise it was hands down the best first date I had ever been on. He was there before me (which is impressive since I am usually early) and we talked for hours just laughing and enjoying getting to know each other. I knew then this was going to be something special.

The Proposal

12/5/20 A Day We Will Always Celebrate

Lorrie: Those that know me also know that I am about as subtle as a punch to the face. So obviously I had been sitting Kyle down for months showing him rings I liked haha. We had always said that if after 2 years things were going well, we would talk marriage and in my mind living together in Covid had to count for a couple years under the belt. Anyway, I had in my mind that he would propose at our annual New Years tradition at the beach in Galveston, which is probably why I didn't even think twice about him suggesting a trip to Austin for our 2 year anniversary. We ended up booking our favorite spot (this little teepee) but they ended up cancelling on us the week of our trip and Kyle was PISSED. I had never seen him so mad... it was no big deal really... I just found another spot to stay. Kyle: To start things off, I got the ring in September and had a great deal of time trying to figure out how I would go about the proposal. I picked Austin because it has always been a go-to place for us when we can't get away for a longer time. I didn't want to do something unoriginal or go somewhere packed with people, and I also wanted it to happen outside. Also, I previously talked Lorrie into getting our drone a little bit earlier than we had planned to capture the proposal. We ended up going to Reimers Ranch for a small hike, where I wanted to propose over the Pedernales river below. It was somewhat like a small canyon, and I wanted to capture the surrounding area while proposing. I got too nervous on the first lookout spot and almost gave it away. I was so nervous I didn't even realize that I had the ring in my hand when I was pointing to the drone talking about the direction it was rotating. Luckily she didn't catch it and I quickly shoved it back in my pocket. Once we got to the second lookout I finally worked up the nerve to get down on my knee as she was looking away. It took her a minute to realize what was happening and finally she said YES.
