Michelle and Kurtis met through mutual friends at Nacho Borracho in Capitol Hill on Cinco de Mayo of 2016. But there were many events prior that made our chance meeting happen! To make a long story short, we met due to a lackluster Tinder date (not ours!), extraverts who made friends with strangers in bars, and a love of celebrating minor holidays. And soccer! Michelle and Kurtis were immediately smitten with each other and bonded over a love of soccer and beer. We reconnected in mid June and began dating. Soon after, Michelle left for a three week trip to Spain but there wasn't a day she was away that she and Kurtis didn't speak. During that time, we got to know each other and when Michelle returned, we made our relationship official.

On our 2nd anniversary of dating, Kurtis gifted Michelle two tri-panel photo frames with mementos from each year they had been dating. It was one of the most thoughtful gifts Michelle had ever been given. Kurtis also purchased matching frames to continue to make these photo scrapbooks each year after. While we had meant to make these each year together, we are procrastinators! By the time our 5 year anniversary rolled around, we still hadn't made any more frames. Little did Michelle know, Kurtis packed all the things necessary to make frames together on our 5 year anniversary trip to Orcas Island. He surprised her one evening by pulling everything out and suggested they make frames together. After making them, we walked down to the beach to watch the sunset. Kurtis told Michelle how much he loved going over our memories together, and how much he wanted to continue making memories together forever, including choosing an engagement ring together. Kurtis got down on one knee, pulled out a Sounders MLS Cup replica ring from our first international trip together (one of our favorite memories!), and asked Michelle to marry him. And she said yes!
