Flight
The journey to beautiful Greece starts with a flight from your home city to Athens. Direct flights from major cities like Boston, London, and Los Angeles to Athens International Airport make the trip accessible from the U.S. and the U.K. From the U.S., flight durations typically span 10 to 12 hours, depending on your departure city and chosen airline. For those seeking adventure, indirect routes through European hotspots add excitement to the travel mix. Next up, it's time to hop from Athens to Paros. You have two options: ferry or flight. Opting for a flight proves the speedier choice, with a brief 30 to 40-minute journey from Athens International Airport landing you at Paros National Airport. From there, a swift transfer via cab from the airport puts you in the heart of Paros. Before you go, here's a tip: Use Google Flights (linked below). It's great for finding budget-friendly deals and making booking easy. With features like comprehensive search, flexible dates, and real-time updates, it's your ticket to hassle-free travel planning.
Travel Note
If you want to take the scenic route on your adventure, a popular choice is to take a ferry from Piraeus Port in Athens to Paros. Ferries operate regularly and offer both high-speed and conventional options, with the journey taking approximately 3-5 hours depending on the type of ferry. Curious to learn more about the ferry? Check out our thoughts in the FAQ section: Greece Ferries 101. There, you'll find all the details about sailing the seas. Looking to book a ferry? In Greece, you'll find two types: those that take cash only and those that accept cards, usually labeled before you hop in. Whether you're at Athens airport or your hotel in Athens, there's usually a cab stand with plenty of taxis available. There is also a popular taxi app called FreeNow, which is very common in Athens but not available in Paros. It is similar to Uber, and you can use it to book your trips around Athens. The ride from the airport to Piraeus Port or vice versa typically takes about 45 minutes by cab. The fare usually falls between €45 to €80, depending on traffic and other factors. Note: While taking a ferry is a totally doable and enjoyable option for island hopping in Greece, be aware that ferries can be busy and bustling. Rental Car
If you're planning to explore the Greek Islands, it's highly recommended to rent a car or ATV, especially if you're visiting Paros. The island isn't very walkable and lacks transportation like Uber. Renting a vehicle or ATV is easy and will allow you to discover the island's beautiful landscapes and hidden gems at your own pace. The island of Paros is not very large. You can travel from one end to the other in about 30 minutes. When considering transportation options, you have two main choices: a car or an ATV. An ATV is an open-air option. These small vehicles typically accommodate 1 to 2 people and provide a fun way to freely explore the island. Expect to feel the wind in your hair and experience a few bumps. If you prefer something more enclosed, renting a car may be the best option. You can rent a small compact vehicle that will allow you to travel around the island with greater comfort. Rental agencies are conveniently located near the main ports on Paros or other islands. Alternatively, you can arrange rentals through your hotel concierge, which is often the most straightforward option. Just inform your concierge of your transportation needs, and they'll handle everything, including organizing a drop-off right outside your hotel. When you're ready to book, make sure to have your passport and a valid driver's license with you. No International Driving Permit is needed to rent transportation on the Greek Islands; a valid US or UK driver's license and passport will suffice. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
