How we met…

As Told by Elise

I met Kurt a few months after I moved from California to Oklahoma. A month before meeting Kurt, I met Kurt's coworker, Carolyn, at a meetup event on Valentine's Day (I know. Could I have been any more single). Carolyn and I quickly became friends and as Oklahoma transplants and neighbors we spent time exploring our new city along with Carolyn's grad school friend's Hunter and Abby. One afternoon, as I was busy organizing my new apartment, Carolyn text me and invited me to a local brewery to meet one of her coworkers. I was in full Marie Condo mode but not wanting to spend the weekend alone, I threw on an oversized flannel and stepped out to meet Abby and Carolyn. As we entered the brewery, I noticed a cute guy sitting at a table alongside an adorably, goofy dog. In an attempt to casually flirt with my newfound crush, I directed my attention to the dog and approached him. To my surprise, the handsome owner of Loco (adorably, goofy dog) was Carolyn's coworker. After spending time getting know each more at the brewery, we moved locations to the Jones Assembly where we sat on the upstairs outside patio drinking cocktails and watching one of the most incredible lightning storms I have ever seen. It was magical. Seriously, straight out of a cheesy hallmark moving where the big city girl moves to the sticks and falls in love under the lightning sky. I still do not know if it was the lightning or love at first but Kurt and I fell in love almost instantly after that night.

How we met...

As Told by Kurt

It was a bright sunny day. I was hanging out with my dog playing video games when I started to get that feeling in the back of my throat that only a tasty Stone Cloud beer could fulfill. As it was already 11 in the morning and friends don't let friends drink alone, I sent out a text to see what Carolyn and Abby were doing. They had probably already been drinking, so they said of course they would like to come have a beer or two. She also asked if she could bring her friend Elise to hang out. I told her to watch out, I am quite the ladies man, so just warn her friend that she was going to be really into me. Head over to the bar and hang out in the back with Loco. In comes Carolyn and Abby and another girl who runs up to the dog and starts playing with him. Always the wingman, Loco sucks her in like a tractor beam and she was hooked. After a few minutes of playing with the dog, she noticed me and was like oh damn, who is this homeless-looking hunk wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt on an 80-degree day. A couple of beers later, (I was paying because I am a gentleman and I did not want to come off as poor as I looked), it was clear there was something between us. Carolyn and Abby started to become annoyed because we couldn't keep our eyes off each other and were not involving them in any of the conversations. They thought they could get included by moving the venue to Jones for some food and more drinks, but it didn't work. We ended up having dinner and some drinks on the balcony, watching an incredible thunderstorm, and talking the night away. Always the smooth operator, I wanted to see the pictures she had taken and entered my digits into her phone. Couldn't let her get away without seeing her again, so I set up another date night and she hasn't left since.
