When Troy first met Kristina, it was late summer 2004. Like many Filipino daughters turning 18, Kristina was preparing for her Debut that December and her cotillion was short one boy. Needless to say, Troy (the freshman kid) was 100% petrified upon arriving for rehearsals and meeting the young, beautiful Kristina. So petrified was he that he did not end up dancing in Kristina's court. Years later...when Kristina's sister, Katrina, was preparing to celebrate her Debut, Troy was again presented with the opportunity to fill a void in her court. This time, Troy joined in and danced in Katrina's court as a way to atone for the act of refusing to dance in Kristina's court. All along, however, Troy had always carried a piece of that boyish fear of meeting a pretty girl and secretly hoping something special may happen between them at some point in time. Years after first meeting, Troy decided to approach Kristina and re-introduce himself as someone interested in getting to know her. After all, they had seen each other around parties and events throughout the years but she and Troy had never spoken past small talk and hellos and goodbyes. Thankfully for them both, they each found out after a few dates that there was something special between them and they’ve been dating ever since. After many life events, ups & downs, chasing dreams & adventures, they're finally getting married. "We always knew from day 1 that we wanted to be with each other and ultimately get married,” Troy said, “we just wanted to live life first." Kristina adds, "The timing feels right and we can't wait!" The soon-to-be newlyweds will wed on 9.1.19.
Around summer 2018, Kristina's grandma was visiting and in town. After a beautiful, sunny lunch with the family at Edmonds, they all stopped by a park. As Kristina and her sister Katrina headed towards the swings, Troy found the opportune moment to ask for her parents and grandma's blessing. They were thrilled! Both Troy and Kristina's grandparents and parents have waited so patiently and finally got their wish. Little did he know, Kristina and Katrina heard bits of their conversation from the swings! It's a bit of an old school tradition but a wonderful memory.
During the gift exchange, Troy surprised everyone in the room, especially Kristina by dropping to his knee, presenting the engagement ring, and awkwardly but genuinely voicing his love for her and, ultimately, asking her to marry him. He proposed to Kristina in her family's home beside the beautifully decorated Christmas tree, in front of her family and doggy, Maui. He put his whole heart on display for Kristina and those who love her the most. The moment was as unexpected and full of joy as any Christmas surprise should be! Although most would consider a surprise Christmas proposal to be the best Christmas gift, to Troy it was knowing the woman of his dreams agreed to be his wife.
