Our Homemade Proposal Videos
We are so excited to celebrate our big day with our closest family and friends!! We know that our love is both a privilege and a blessing, and neither of us would be here without the love, support, prayers, and joy of everyone in our village. We especially want to mention our gratitude for our parents, who taught us what it means to love unconditionally and raised us with an abundance of love, grace, and strong values. As for our wedding weekend, we hope everyone takes some time to explore Atlanta, where Samiyyah grew up and where we have already began making memories together. This website provides information on how to RSVP, where to stay, what to wear, and what to do while you're in town. All you have to do now is get ready to party!
Many people have said that we are always laughing, so it is perhaps unsurprising that our love story begins with improv. A few years ago, Krystal produced “The Cookout,” a two-day celebration of Black improv at our home theater, Washington Improv Theater, in D.C. Tickets sold out quickly, but a mutual friend got Samiyyah in the door by asking Krystal if she could perform with one of the groups. We met at the after party and had a great conversation. A seed was planted, but no one knew a global pandemic was coming in two weeks. Although the theater went dark, the Black improv community continued online through biweekly Zoom meetings and an online variety show. When Krystal asked Samiyyah to perform a duo for the show, Samiyyah was sure Krystal was asking her out. It turns out, she was not…but we started talking weekly about the show, and then daily about our lives, and we fell in love anyway. After countless zooms and facetimes, 89 of Krystal’s “favorite” episodes of The Office, and several virtual movie watches, we braved the cold and covid to go on a walk along the Alexandria waterfront. Samiyyah showed up with homemade biscoff chocolate chip cookies and gave two to Krystal to bring on the walk. Krystal replied, “Is that it?” Luckily, there were more, as Samiyyah had prepared a full batch for her to take home. And that was just the beginning of us exceeding the other’s expectations. We talked for hours and laughed the whole time, and we’re still doing so to this day. I guess one could say, we said "Yes and" forever.
