Travel Note
DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT! Many countries will not allow you to enter unless your passport is set to expire at least 6 months after the final day of travel. That means if your passport is set to expire before April 2019, you should renew it. New passport applications can take up to 6 months. Book early. October is busy festival and wedding season. SMA is an easy 90-minute drive via shuttle (details below) from BJX airport, so be sure to take this into account when noting arrival / departure times in your RSVP. SMA is incredibly safe and inexpensive, and the locals (including the 30% of ex-pat Americans and Canadians who live there permanently) are friendly and welcoming. WEAR COMFORTABLE AND FLAT SHOES AT ALL TIMES. Hilly cobblestone streets and heels don't mix. SMA is known for its year-round spring-like climate (similar to Southern California), though being in the highlands means temperatures can drop dramatically at night (low 30s) so bring warm clothes for the evening.
Travel Note
We highly recommend downloading "WhatsApp," a free app that uses WiFi and allows you to text and send photos without international charges. We will be setting up a group chat for real-time updates during the wedding week, so please provide at least one cell number per couple with your RSVP where requested. SMA is 6,400 feet in elevation (1,120 feet higher than Denver), you might tire quickly during your first day. Stay hydrated. Water served in restaurants and hotels is purified and safe. You will need pesos for small stores, street vendors and taxis ($1 USD is a little less than 19 pesos), which can be withdrawn from ATMs around town — there are two in the main square around the church. It is a good idea to alert your bank to your travel plans before you leave the U.S. to avoid any issues. Taxi rides within the city should cost around 30 to 40 pesos — confirm before you ride! The city is bustling with energy (and church bells), bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
Flight
Leon International Airport (BJX) in Guanajuato, Mexico is your best option for getting to San Miguel de Allende from the US (QRO is a second option, it's a smaller airport about an hour drive from SMA). There are nonstop and brief one-stop roundtrip flights from all major US cities on reliable carriers like American, Delta, United, Aeromexico, Volaris and more. You can find good deals if you keep an eye out. San Miguel de Allende is a safe and scenic 90-minute car ride from BJX. See instructions on booking transportation to and from the airport with BajioGo.

There are hundreds of incredible Airbnbs to fit every budget in SMA. We do recommend you look for one in the center of town (the "centro") near the "Jardín," which will make for easy walking to most attractions and activities.

There is a sizable inventory of great villas to rent in SMA, from two bedrooms to 7+. They usually come with onsite staff — kitchen, cleaning and manager — that can grocery shop, cook meals and arrange activities.
