Question

Morocco?! WTF?

Answer

Fuck yeah!

Question

How do I get to Marrakech?!!?!?!?!?!?!?

Answer

We suggest a plane!

Question

What do I wear in Morocco?

Answer

Morocco has desert weather, warm during the day and cool at night. In May, it should be a high of 83F and a low of 55F. Wear lighter fabrics and have a breezy jacket or shawl available for when the temperature drops at night. While you’re in the privacy of your hotel or having the time of your life at our wedding, absolutely dress however you'd like. Show off that bod! Let that neckline plunge, baby! When out in public and exploring Marrakech, tourists can (and will!) wear whatever they want — but we’d encourage everyone to be mindful about respecting local traditions and cultures. That means both men and women should cover their shoulders, and women should also be careful to cover their cleav and not wear anything far above the knee. So it’s going to be a lot of capris and knee-length/midi/maxi skirts for women — and no tiny tank tops for anyone! If you’re still confused, google it! A ton of people have asked this same question on Reddit, and there are plenty of bloggers who have spent hours writing about exactly this. Just dress comfortably with modesty in mind, and you’ll be totally fine.

Question

So… what about a bathing suit?

Answer

Absolutely bring a bathing suit. The encouragement to be mindful of local customs is advice for public spaces. When in your riad, kasbah, or hotel, you are in a private space and most of these private spaces will have a gorgeous pool area. You are 100% expected to be wearing a bathing suit (even a bikini) at the pool. Bring a cover up for walking through the hallways, but other than that, don’t give it a second thought!

Question

Headscarves?

Answer

Tourists do not need to worry about head coverings. If you’re trying to visit a mosque, you might get turned away without a head scarf, but other than that specific situation you won’t run into any issues.

Question

Is Morocco cool with PDA?

Answer

Morocco is a vibrant and exciting country with a thousand fun things to do. It is also a culturally more conservative place than America. So FYI: public displays of affection are considered scandalous. Don’t make out in public. You can happily make out at our wedding! Go nuts! But doing so while you’re out and about will attract negative attention. And that’s no fun for anyone!

Question

Do I need to be vaccinated? Asking for a friend….

Answer

UPDATE: Moroccan authorities lifted COVID-related travel restrictions on September 30, 2022. Passengers must only complete the Public Health Passenger Form and present it upon arrival. Passports must also have at least six months of validity at time of entry. https://ma.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/ ***We will update this as the rules change!***

Question

Do you tip in Morocco?

Answer

Yes, you tip in Morocco! Tip 10-20% at upscale restaurants, tip your taxi driver, leave a small tip in your hotel room.

Question

I am a woman traveling alone. What do I need to know?

Answer

Female tourists might get catcalled or stared at, which is, of course, annoying and uncomfortable. This is where being mindful about your clothing can help quite a bit when it comes to mitigating negative attention. Sometimes a fake wedding ring can act as a sort of shield from this kind of behavior. Lots of women have traveled on their own to Morocco and had amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experiences — and they’ve written about the experiences on their blogs. Here are some great accounts on how you can best prepare yourself and ensure you’ll have an awesome time: https://traversejourneys.com/blog/8-solo-female-travel-tips-for-morocco https://www.theblondeabroad.com/what-its-like-traveling-as-a-woman-in-morocco/

Question

I identify as LGBTQIA+. What do I need to know?

Answer

Morocco has an interesting (and queer!) history. In the ‘50s and ‘60s, when laws in Europe and North America were particularly harsh, Morocco (Tangier, in particular) was a liberal haven for the gay community. But currently, homosexuality is technically illegal in Morocco. This law is rarely enforced, and it does NOT apply to tourists. You are absolutely free to share a hotel room with whoever you choose — no one will think twice. The main key advice here is to avoid public PDA, which goes for all couples regardless of orientation. At our wedding and our dinner in the desert, however, you will be in a private space and these considerations don’t apply! Dance and make out with anyone! Everyone! We’re all making out! Question

Are kids invited to the wedding?

Answer

We love kids but we would also love for adults to feel free to relax! Do with that what you will!

Question

Um….. are bathrooms the same in Morocco?!

Answer

All of your riads/hotels/tourist destinations will have western toilets, but if you’re planning on exploring off the beaten path, or you find yourself needing to use random bathrooms a lot, bring a small pack of toilet paper or pocket Kleenex! Some Moroccan establishments that aren’t accustomed to a lot of tourists may not have toilet paper in their bathrooms, so plan ahead!
