Be sure your passport is up to date! We recommend reviewing the details of your passport ASAP to determine if you need to renew or apply. United States passports currently take about 6 weeks to process. Also, check your passport’s expiration date. You are not able to travel if your passport expires within 6 months of your departure or arrival date. For the best prices, we recommend booking airfare at least 4-6 months in advance. If you plan to bring your children, we recommend submitting a request to their school for independent study. Most schools request a 2-week notice for independent studies.
We plan to stay in Mexico from Wednesday, November 5th to Wednesday, November 12th. Some friends and family are choosing to stay the whole week and others are choosing to stay Wednesday, November 5th to Monday, November 10th. Please do what you feel most comfortable with! We are blessed to have you join us for any period of time. Reminder: Tuesday, November 11th is a holiday. It is Veteran’s Day.
Not at all! Puerto Vallarta is a popular tourist destination, and many locals speak English. Learning a few basic Spanish phrases can be helpful but is not necessary to enjoy your trip.
The official currency in Mexico is the Mexican Peso, though U.S. dollars (USD) are accepted in many tourist areas. It is a good idea to carry pesos for small purchases in local markets. Credit cards are widely accepted in restaurants, hotels, and larger shops. You can exchange money at currency exchange offices, airport exchanges, and/or banks (there is a currency exchange location in Paradise Village). Currently, $1 USD is about 20 Pesos.
Yes, tipping is customary. For restaurants, 10-15% of the bill is standard. Small tips for service staff like housekeepers and drivers are appreciated too. We recommend keeping plenty of $1 USD’s for tipping while on the resort. Tipping with Pesos is also appreciated but not necessary, especially if you are not able to convert your currency.
Stick to bottled or filtered water for drinking because tap water in Mexico is not treated the same way as in the United States. Restaurants and resorts typically use purified water for ice and cooking, so you can enjoy your drinks worry-free. To be cost-effective, we recommend buying bottled water at the grocery store. There is a grocery store located in the Paradise Plaza Shopping Center, which is within walking distance of our recommended hotel suggestions. More details of the Plaza can be found under the “Travel” tab.
Food from street vendors can be amazing! Stick to busy vendors with a high turnover rate to ensure fresh and delicious meals. If you visit El Malecon in the evening, we recommend trying some of the food vendors. One of Kristina's favorites is the dessert crepe vendor.
November is one of the best months to visit! Expect warm, sunny days with highs around 85*F and cooler evenings around 70*F.
Light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and a swimsuit are a must! If you choose to do adventure tours, we recommend packing water shoes, a thin towel, and bug spray. We also recommend packing a thin wind breaker jacket, just in case.
Since the wedding venue has uneven terrain such as sand, gravel, and cobblestone, we recommend wearing flats or dress sandals for comfort and ease. If you prefer heels, opt for low block heels to avoid sinking in the sand. Tall heels or shoes with a skinny heel are not recommended for safety.
Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for! We feel so fortunate to have you celebrate with us. No additional gifts are necessary.
No, Mexico uses the same voltage and plugs as the United States. (110-120v, Type A and B plugs).
In many local bathrooms, toilet paper should be disposed of in a bin instead of being flushed, as the plumbing systems can’t always handle toilet paper. However, at resorts and modern facilities, it is usually fine to flush toilet paper. When in doubt, follow any signs or instructions in the bathroom.
