Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

The closest airport to downtown Washington, D.C. and the Northern Virginia suburbs. The airport serves as a hub for American Airlines and is also served by Alaska, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, and United. Very limited international flights. DCA is also accessible by the D.C. Metro transit system (Yellow & Blue Lines). The airport is approximately 3 miles from downtown D.C.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

The largest airport in the D.C. Metro Area with a large number of domestic and international flights. The airport serves as a hub for United Airlines, and is served by a variety of other domestic and international air carriers. Access to the D.C. Metro transit system is available via a shuttle from the terminal ($5 each way) to the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station (Silver Line). Road access to/from the airport coming from the direction of the I-495 Beltway is toll-free via the Dulles Airport Access Road. The airport is approximately 26 miles from downtown D.C.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)

Another alternate airport for Washington D.C. The airport serves as a hub for Southwest Airlines, and is also served by a variety of domestic carriers, and limited number of international carriers. The airport is located approximately 30 miles from downtown D.C. Public transit to Washington's Union Station is available via Amtrak and MARC from the BWI Rail Station (shuttle available from the terminal). Further transit within D.C. is available via the Union Station Metro Station (Red Line).

PRO-TIP: Airfare comparison between DCA, IAD, and BWI

When checking for airfare, we recommend that you also consider flying into IAD and BWI, and comparing those prices with flights into DCA. DCA tends to be a popular airport for business and government travelers. Because of that, the price difference can be as much as a few hundred dollars - especially for trans-continental and international flights.
