And Then There Was Us

The timing wasn't ours. The plan was His. The love became ours.

Our story began in 2014, when I was 18 and Kristian was 21. We met through mutual friends while we were out one night, completely unaware that an ordinary night out would eventually become the beginning of the greatest chapter of our lives. The night we met, we danced together the entire night until the lights came on. There was something about him that immediately caught my attention. He was cute, definitely my type, and there was an undeniable chemistry between us. But, of course, I wasn’t going to make it that easy for him (lol). Even after spending the entire night together, I still didn’t give him my number. I had to play a little hard to get. So, social media became his only way of finding me. Eventually, we exchanged numbers, started hanging out, and what began with one unforgettable night quickly became something neither of us could ignore. From the beginning, there was always something different about us. We had a connection that was hard to put into words. When we were together, conversation came naturally. We could talk for hours and somehow still have more to say. There were belly laughs, endless conversations, inside jokes, adventures, and memories that made those early years so special. Kristian was always the one who could make me laugh no matter what was happening around us. He was someone I could trust with everything. And I became his cheerleader, believing in his dreams, encouraging him through life, celebrating his wins, and standing beside him when things didn’t go as planned. But our story didn’t always follow a perfectly straight path. Life took us in different directions, and for a season, we went our separate ways. At the time, we couldn’t understand why something that felt so special wasn’t meant to continue the way we imagined. Looking back now, we see those years differently. We believe God was working in the parts of our story that we couldn’t see. He was growing us individually, shaping us, teaching us, and preparing our hearts for the life we would eventually build together. And when the time was right, somehow, we found our way back to each other. We weren’t the same two people who met at 18 and 21. We had grown, experienced life, and understood ourselves better. And this time, we knew what we wanted. We wanted each other. Over the years that followed, we built a life together. We became a family, created countless memories, had two beautiful children, laughed until our stomachs hurt, supported each other’s dreams, and learned that love isn’t only found in the big, picture-perfect moments. It’s found in the everyday moments, in choosing each other, showing up, giving grace, forgiving, growing, and walking through every season hand in hand. Most importantly, we’ve learned that the strongest foundation we can build our marriage on is God. Our story isn’t perfect, and that’s what makes it ours. There have been beautiful seasons and difficult ones, unexpected turns and moments that tested us. But through every chapter, we’ve continued to find our way back to one another. We didn’t know that the two people dancing until the lights came on that night would one day become husband and wife. We didn’t know we’d build a family together. We didn’t know how many memories we’d make or how much we’d grow. And we certainly didn’t know that even when our story took a different direction, God was still writing it. But God knew. He knew we’d find our way back. He knew the family we’d become. And He knew that one day we’d stand before the people we love most and promise forever. Our wedding isn’t the beginning of our love story. It’s a celebration of everything that brought us here and the beginning of all the chapters we have yet to write. We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but we know Who holds our future. God’s timing was better than ours. From one night of dancing until the lights came on… to a lifetime of choosing each other. And then there was us. And now, there is forever. 🤍
