How We Met

Thank you, Chancellor!

In 2018, Tyler's block team at work would switch dismissal duties every month or so. It just so happened that April would be Tyler's month to take the High Star walkers out for dismissal. On one of the first days of duty he noticed a beautiful woman that he had never seen around. After paying a little extra attention, he figured out who she was and tried to come up with a plan to talk to her. Luckily for Tyler, someone else created an opportunity for conversation. When a father left his car parked in the middle of the street while he got out to pick up his kids, another parent didn't appreciate it and let out a thunderous honk that scared Kristen. Tyler thought it was pretty fun and made a sarcastic comment. A day or two later when Kristen showed up to pick Jenna up in rain boots with no rain in site, once again, Tyler just had to make a sarcastic comment. That sarcastic comment led to the conversation that started this love story. When Kristen told Tyler that her and Jenna were moving and that she was looking for a basketball league for Jenna to join, Tyler knew this was his opportunity. He immediately went inside, found a basketball league and found Kristen's number in the online database. He sent her a quick text to let her know about the league that he had found. Quickly the messaging led to an invitation for ice cream that night and, as they say, the rest is history.

The Engagement

November 26, 2020

Proposing in his hometown was really important to Tyler. A majority of his and Kristen's relationship has taken place in Kristen's hometown of Houston, so having a connection to the place where he was raised meant a lot to him. After talking to Kristen's father and finding out that he had proposed to her mother on Thanksgiving, Tyler knew this would be a perfect plan! (Even though Kristen had told him not to propose on a holiday-- he knew she wouldn't be expecting it!) Tyler's confidence in the plan only grew when his grandma told him that (she's pretty sure) his grandad had proposed to her on Thanksgiving as well. After a great Thanksgiving dinner with Tyler's family at his sister's house in Haxtun, Colorado, Tyler, Kristen, Jenna, Jonathon and Gio headed back towards Chappell. As we pulled into Chappell, Gio, who was part of the plan, asked if we could pull over and take some pictures near the small park on main street. After he and Jonathon took a few pictures, Tyler and Jenna took some together, then Kristen joined them. After a picture of two was taken, Tyler knelt down and asked Kristen to marry him. She was shocked and thrilled! So thrilled that she didn't actually say yes. All she could say was, "....What?!" Based on the fact that this website is coming together and we're making all of these plans, I think that translates to a yes. :)
